「和える」と「混ぜる」 "harmony"and"mix."
プレゼントで頂いた本に書いてあった内容を少しご紹介します。

「和える」は日本料理で使う言葉ですが、似た意味の言葉に「混ぜる」があります。
和食には混ぜるはなく、和えるしかない
粉と卵を混ぜ合わせてパンを作るように「混ぜる」ことで全く違うものを作る。
英語にするなら「ミックス」
一方「和える」は、それぞれの違い（魅力）を活かしながら、お互いの個性を尊重し、美味しい料理を作る。
英語にするなら「ハーモニー」
一人ひとりが自分の本当の心を大切にしながら、無理にひとつにしない。個性がバラバラのままでハーモニーを生み出す。
それが「和える」であり、聖徳太子の「和をもって貴（とうと）しとなす」ってやつです。

「和える」日本らしい良い表現ですね。
東京は昨日の雪が残っていて今夜も冷えそうです。
ストーブの上にヤカンを置くと、懐かしく、なんだか平和な気持ちになります。

The word "aeru" is used in Japanese cooking, but there is another word with a similar meaning, "mazeru".
There is no "mazeru" in Japanese cooking, there is only "aeru."
Just like mixing flour and eggs to make bread, "mixing" makes something completely different.
To put it in English, "mix."
On the other hand, "aeru" makes use of the differences (charms) of each ingredient while respecting each other's individuality to create a delicious dish.
In English, it is "harmony.
Each person values his or her own true heart, but does not force it to become one. Harmony is created with each individuality remaining disparate.
This is "harmony," or as Shotoku Taishi said, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

"Aeru" is a good Japanese expression.
In Tokyo, yesterday's snow still remains and it is going to be cold again tonight.
Putting the kettle on the stove makes me feel nostalgic and somewhat peaceful.
