25年くらい前でしたか、ハウス系サイトの掲示板で、この曲をめぐってちょっとした議論が起きたことを覚えています。内容は、もし自分がDJだとしてこの曲をプレイするか、というもの。ハウス好きやハウスDJも、現在の日本では多くが異性愛者だと思います。私もそうです。で、肝心の議論ですが、ひとつは「ゲイの人たちの立場や気持ちを考えると、異性愛者である自分がこの曲をプレイするわけにはいかない」というもの。もうひとつは「いや、いい曲なんだからこの曲をプレイし、この曲の良さ、ひいてはこの曲の背後にあることを多くの人に知ってもらうべきだ」というもの。
どちらも一理あると思います。もっと言えば、今は25年前よりもいろいろな問題が起こりやすい時代だと思います。ですが、私だったらプレイすると思います。理由は、単純にこの曲がいい曲だからです。
いずれにせよ、理想だろうが夢想だろうが青臭かろうが、すべての人間は対等で幸福であるべきだという崇高かつ切実な理念を捨てるべきではないと思います。
