As you may have known, in November 2021 social media service Discord tried to integrate NFTs into its platform, causing users to cancel their Nitro subscription.

But now, it got even more worse.

I found out that MEE6, a Discord bot that is mostly used for Discord server moderation, is also doing NFTs.

On their NFT website, they are promoting their first NFT drop.

NFTs are a problem, because they are stored on a blockchain and they produce a lot of energy, which is bad for the environment. They also ruin lives of independent artists. And NFTs are not a good way to own artwork.

Another thing is that the MEE6 support server announced that they would ban anyone that sends NFT hate messages, copy pastas and images/GIFs related to NFT/blockchain hate. This is absolutely wrong, because even if harassment and bullying are wrong, criticism is fine depending on the situation. We just shouldn’t criticize them as if we were bullying them. Banning people from servers over criticism is like silencing them.

Criticizing a person, a group or a company for any controversy allows them to take accountability.

The controversy in this situation is NFTs.

And the problem is that instead of taking accountability and releasing a statement, MEE6 chose to go ahead and continue with NFTs and silence any NFT-related criticism.

Since everyone knew about climate change, people have been working hard to protect the environment.

We should continue protecting the environment because NFTs became a thing and they are harmful to the environment.
