While Uno deservedly received the most attention, Yamamoto impressed with a sublime free skate that moved him from seventh place onto the podium.
もちろん最も注目を浴びたのは宇野だが、SP７位から表彰台に上がった山本の壮大なフリーは、深く心に残った。
Yamamoto turned 15 just two months ago and possesses great potential for the future.
2か月前に15歳になったばかりの山本は、未来へ大きな可能性を秘めている。
Yamamoto, who hails from Kishiwada, Osaka Prefecture, reminds Ice Time of a younger Hanyu.
山本（=大阪府岸和田出身）を見ていると、若い頃の羽生を思い出す。
He has a similar build to the Olympic champion and displays a feathery touch when landing his jumps.
彼の体つきはオリンピックチャンピオンにそっくりで、ジャンプのランディングは羽が生えたように柔らかく軽やかだ。
It will be interesting to watch his progression in the coming years.
近い将来、彼の進化を見るのが楽しみだ。
The bronze medal capped off a stellar season for Yamamoto, who made the podium at five of the six events he entered.
山本は、出場した６大会のうち５大会で表彰台に乗るという輝かしいシーズンを、銅メダルで締めくくった。
The only exception was the Japan’s senior nationals, where he finished sixth.
唯一の例外はシニアの全日本で、そのときは６位に終わっている。
Yamamoto is coached by Hiroshi Nagakubo, best known for his long association with Akiko Suzuki.
山本のコーチは、鈴木明子を長らく指導していたことで知られる長久保裕である。
Yamamoto was the silver medalist at the Junior Grand Prix Final this season after placing second at the JGPs in Estonia and France.
山本は今季、ジュニアグランプリシリーズのエストニア大会とフランス大会で２位となり、ファイナルで銀メダルを獲得した。
“He has grown and developed his jumping skills recently but doesn’t have artistic skills yet,” commented an international judge about Yamamoto.
「彼はここ最近、急激にジャンプの力を付けてきている。しかし、芸術性はまだ足りない。」と、ある国際ジャッジが山本を評した。
“He needs to improve more. He is still young, so I am looking forward to it.”
「もっと改善が必要だ。が、彼はまだ若い。楽しみに待っているよ。」
The judge admitted that Yamamoto’s third-place finish at the world juniors was a surprise.
そのジャッジは、山本の世界ジュニア３位という結果に、驚きを隠さなかった。
“I actually didn’t think Sota would be on the podium. That’s really great work,” the judge said.
「じつは、草太が表彰台に乗るとは思っていなかった。すごいことをやってくれたね！」
