The choice of floor tiles directly affects the durability of the repair. The floor is subjected to constant loads - walking, furniture, changes in temperature and humidity. Therefore, when buying, it is important to understand which tile is really considered the strongest and for which conditions it is suitable.

The main criteria for tile strength
The strength of the floor tile is determined not only by its thickness. There are several key parameters:
- Durability. Shows how well the tile resists abrasion.
- Bending strength. It is important for point loads, for example from furniture.
- Water absorption. The lower the index, the higher the resistance to destruction.
- Frost resistance. Relevant for balconies, terraces and unheated rooms.
It is the combination of these characteristics that allows you to determine which tile will last longer.
Ceramic granite is the leader in strength
Ceramic granite is rightfully considered the strongest floor tile. It is produced by pressing and firing a mixture of clay, quartz and feldspar at a very high temperature.
Advantages of ceramic granite:
- Minimal water absorption, typically less than 0.5 percent.
- High density and resistance to mechanical loads.
- Do not be afraid of temperature changes and frosts.
- Suitable for rooms with high traffic.
Ceramic granite is often used in shopping centers, offices, entrances and on the street, which already indicates its strength.
Clinker tile
Clinker tiles are also highly reliable. It is made from special types of clay followed by high-temperature firing.
The main features of clinker:
- Increased resistance to abrasion.
- Low water absorption.
- Excellent frost resistance.
- Rough surface that reduces the risk of slipping.
Most often, clinker is used for stairs, terraces, porches and facades.
Ceramic tiles: not all are equally strong
Ordinary ceramic tiles are inferior to ceramic granite in terms of strength, but with the right choice, they can serve for a long time. For the floor, you should choose a tile with a high class of wear resistance.
PEI classes:
- PEI I and II are suitable for walls only.
- PEI III is used in residential areas.
- PEI IV and V are designed for high loads and public spaces.
For the kitchen, corridor or hallway, it is better to choose a tile not lower than PEI IV.
Natural stone
Granite and basalt belong to the strongest natural materials. They withstand serious loads and practically do not wear out.
However, natural stone has nuances:
- High price.
- Great weight.
- Demanding basis and care.
Marble, despite its beauty, is less resistant to scratches and chemicals, so it is used less often for floors.
Results
If we talk about maximum strength, ceramic granite is the undisputed leader. It is universal, durable and suitable for almost any operating conditions. Clinker tiles take second place and are great for outdoor areas. Ceramic tiles and natural stone can be durable, but require more careful selection for specific tasks. The correct choice of floor tiles will allow you to avoid premature repairs and preserve the attractive appearance of the floor for many years.
