Jonsson/Alter/ En Livfull Skildring (Kontra Musik)

Jonsson/Alter/

Jonsson/Alter, the new project from Henrik Jonsson (Porn Sword Tobacco/Gunnar Jonsson) & Joel Alter (Joel Alter/Jor-el), presents the follow up to their debut EP - Olidan. After the summer their full-length album will drop. The title track, En Livfull Skildring, is a well-arranged and heavy dance track moving the newborn duo closer to techno domains. But the Jonsson/Ater version of techno is something very playful, warm and organic. With free and floating organs, the already acknowledged trade mark of the group, this feels like techno seeking inspiration in the sounds of the seventies. On the b-side a minimalistic but irresistibly funky drum programming jams with a wild and constantly tweaked one-tone bass line. Very few sounds play efficiently in this amazing track that will be spun extensively by djs this summer. You will not miss this one - be so sure. On the last track, house maestro Move D aka David Moufang, threats the title track and brings us down the memory lane. A fierce kick, classic and old school house stabs mix with a 303 and Davids own Dobro guitar. The result is a deep, melodic and very warm house track striving towards dance floor peaks. Only David can do it like this - and he does. It all started with some old synthesizers and the will to play. Jonsson and Alter met in Gothenburg, Sweden, years ago. In 2010 they found themselves being neighbors in Berlin, Neue K?ln. One day Jonsson went over to Alter, checking out some abandoned synthesizers Alter found in the streets. A jam session started that has not yet ended. Jonsson has a long history of record making and is the musician behind projects like Porn Sword Tobacco, Stress Assassin and Gunnar Jonsson. His track Morgon?nga was voted one of the best tracks of 2010 by MNML SSGS and the track Massagerutin 1 still blow minds. Alter also has long release history, with records out record on labels such as Minus, Gigolo and Room With A View. Recently Joel had a minor hit with the track I Feel You, out on Bass Culture.

Chicago Shags/ The Family Album (M>O>S (Delsin))

Chicago

Though well respected and accomplished producers in their own right, together Brian 'Orgue Electronique' Schijf and Danny 'Legowelt' Wolfers really make the girls go wild. Their Chicago Shags project is one that has released on Creme Organization, Bunker and Strange Life Records, forever mining increasingly exciting house depths since 2005. Now they return with The Family Album on the ever-excellent MOS Recordings. The four track EP starts with 'Ponderosa'; a forward looking, cosmic surfing house cut wired with plenty of smooth electronics and pure jacking energy, before 'Pancake Breakfast' glistens and glints just as much with its firefly synth lines, gurgling baseline and sweet, pixelated melodies.'Firetruck Sunday' is more dense and edgy, never resting in one place for more than a single beat, with chattery drums and claps offset by a rounded, smoothed but acidy bassline. Finally, 'To The Westfield' surges and soars through more sci-fi universes as a house groove busies itself below.Four tracks of heavily analogue house for the most knowing of dancefloors, then, as is always the case with this pair!

Things With Wings/ Scurrd (Skrufix)

Things

A brand new, Berlin-based record label, Skrufix is an adventure into the future of music. Inspired by our work in the music industry and the game-changing developments of recent years, this project is about finding new perspectives and working with exciting artists, both undiscovered and established ones, who have inspired us to do what we do.Along the road to pigeonhole liberation, which will be littered with great parties, we want to release off-centre dancefloor masterpieces! Here we are then, our first release to launch it all, which comes from the aptly named `Things With Wings' (TWW), with his track `Scurrd'. This is an introduction to his distinct style that is both punchy and playful and which will make you shout `fucking yes' when you hear that speaker-rattling bass! The perfect taster for the Skrufix sound, it carries you through with the solid kick, but the brokenness and intricate sounds mean you can't help but be more than a head nodder, you'll need to dance instead! Two solid remixes complete the package, from a couple of fine producers we have the pleasure to know and work with and whose varying styles more than compliment the original. First up is the one they call MightyHor! Hailing from the UK shire hamlet of Lidstone, he has fought his way through the deep dark dungeons of Enstone and past the armies of Oxford, to polish his warrior and production techniques in the electronic wonderland of `that London'. His remix is nothing short of sublime, adding a simplistic grittiness to it, which builds nicely, to then launch you into broken realms of beats and synths and Juno tweaks! Next up we introduce Zoonka, who could once be found in fields in Kent listening to indie, acid house and hip-hop. But for Skrufix he has ventured back indoors to bring things to a new level with his remix, putting a darker, glitchier spin on Scurrd, with a totally different rhythmical style. Keeping the crunchy elements of the original and twisting our heads with a deep underlying vocal sample and reverbed sparse beats, reminiscent of the style of Blawan or The Chain. Whatever, it is pretty damn sweet! That is all...

Fudge Fingas/ Amaranthine Labyrinth EP (Purple Maze)

Fudge

After three releases of darkened house, proto rave and weird techno, Holland's boutique Purple Maze label takes a detour into funky disco territory with Prime Numbers and Firecracker craftsman Fudge Fingas at the helm. His Amaranthine Labyrinth EP is lively, bright and sugary, but still features plenty of complex analogue machinery to get you dancing.'Eyes On The Prize' opens proceedings with some distant bongos, glassy percussion and punchy kick drums. It's a jostling track with insistent claps running right through it that really comes alive when some sweeping chords bring irresistible colour and funk.Next up, 'NTNLC' has excitable vocals 'woos!' and busy, hyper speed melodies racing along with classic hi hat ringlets: the whole thing sounds like it?s about to explode like a firework but never quite does, instead bouncing along with plenty of bristling, party starting atmosphere.'Kinski' is more subdued and deep to start, eventually surging off into some twinkling cosmic universe somewhere far away. Chicago snares and 303 basslines intertwine with each other as dollops of melodic colour and ringing, harmonic bells bring the brightness before final track 'All As It Should Be' goes super slow, almost beatdown, rocking backwards and forwards on the spot with a breathy voice drifting above wooden sounding percussion, xylophones and plenty of gentle grooves.Fudge Fingas has a unique sonic palette; his sounds are bright and cheery without being overly sweet and, what's more, you'll never hear a standard plug-in or over-used sample anywhere in his lush soundscapes. This EP is no different.
