surely を使う場合

英検チャレンジ！吉祥寺わくわく英語です。

授業中会話でsurelyを使う場合、下記の

意味で使っていらっしゃる場合が多いです。
☞　確かに・必ず・きっと
〇He will surely pass the exam.

きっと試験に通るよ。
〇Surely, she would understand.　

必ず分かってくれるよ。

ちょっと改まった響きがありますね。
ですので口語の場合は言い換えた方が

自然な場合も：

I am surely very tired.

確かに凄く疲れています。

☞　I am really tired.

Surely, my wife will take care of that.

きっと妻がどうにかしてくれると思う。

☞　I'm sure that my wife will take care

of that.
☞　My wife will definitely take care

of that.など。

下記のような場合、会話で普通に使います。

よく使う用法
1) ～でしょうね、～ですよね。

同意してくれるよね？

という意味を込めて使う。

Surely you remember him?
彼のこと覚えているよね。

Hanako will surely find a solution

to the problem.
花子だったら問題を解決するよ。

It's surely quicker if you have a

rice cooker.
炊飯器があればずっと早いよね。

2) まさか～じゃないよね？
否定疑問文の中で驚き・疑念を表す。
文頭または文末にsurely

Surely you’re joking!

冗談だよね？

Surely they could have done

better than that.

もっと上手くできただろうにね。

Surely you are not going with Tim!
まさかTimと行くんじゃないよね。

Surely you're not going to take

two weeks off work?
まさか二週間も休暇とらないよね。

Surely Kate's not interested in

a job like that?
Kateはそういう仕事に興味ないはずだよ。

Surely we should do something

about it?
何もしないってわけにはいかないよね。

You must have heard about the bad

news, surely?
悪いニュースのこと聞いてるよね。

Surely you remember Joe?
まさかJoeのこと忘れてないよね。

Surely you don't expect me to believe that?
それを僕に信じろって無理だよね？

Surely you won't turn your back on them?
まさか見捨てるつもりじゃないよね。
