英検チャレンジ！吉祥寺わくわく英語です。

 

清少納言　枕草子のブログより...。

先ずは橋本治の『枕草子』(1986年) の

「まえがき」より引用：

"こんにちは♡清少納言でーす。
あたしってさー、よく考えたらとっても
ナウくなんかないでしょ。
ほとんど国文学だし。
要するにとっても色気なんかなくて
バァさんで、パサパサでオールドミスで
カビがはえてて何言ってるか分かんなくて
男にはもてなくて...。
だってそうでしょ？
一体どこのヤングが『枕の草子』なんか
読むのよ？そうでしょ？
読むわけないわよね。
絶対読まないと思う。
あたし知ってんだから。(略)

私は橋本治の現代語訳を読んで古典が
好きになったんです。日本人でよかった。
枕草子を知らずしてこの世を去るなんて
あり得ない。大損失過ぎる。悔し過ぎる。
 
枕草子の英訳は今のところ少なくとも
5つはあるみたいです。
自分はMeredith McKinney のがいいかな、
強いて言えばですが。
彼女が女性だからかも？
実際は全文読んでみないと決められないけど。
まぁ、でもやっぱり全文は読みませんけど。
原書が読めるので(というか現代語訳と併せて
ですが)英語版は読みません。
それでも英訳するとこんなに世界が
変わってしまうことを知るのは楽しい。
 
春はあけぼの。
やうやう白くなりゆく山際、少し明かりて、
紫だちたる雲の細くたなびきたる。
“In spring it is the dawn that is 
most beautiful.
As the light creeps over the hills, 
their outlines are dyed a faint red and 
wisps of purplish cloud trail over them. “

“In spring, the dawn — when the slowly 
paling mountain rim is tinged with red, 
and wisps of faintly crimson
-purple cloud float in the sky. “

“In spring, it is the dawn. 
The sky at the edge of the mountains 
slowly starts to brighten with the 
approach of day, 
and the thinly trailing clouds nearby
