世界的に著名な経営者であるジャック・ウェルチの後継者であるジェフ・イメルトの人柄とその経営戦略について概括した本。

なぜこの時期に引き継いだのか、なぜイメルトなのか、それに興味があって購入した。

ウェルチと言えば、事業買収売却と成果主義人事制度の徹底によって、「合理化」と「多角化」を両立することに成功し、在任期間中にＧＥの売上を４倍に拡大した２０世紀を代表する伝説的経営者である。

２０世紀終盤の世界的な経済成長を巧みに捉えた見事な拡大戦略を採ったと称賛されている。

言うまでもなく、偉大な前任者の後を引き継ぐのは困難な仕事である。

しかもイメルトが舞台に上げられたのは、なんとあの９・１１テロのわずか４日前だったそうだ。

ドラマチックな出現を終え、ＧＥの更なる成長の為に彼が掲げた戦略は、

「価値創造企業への転換」である。

その根底には、高度な技術や知識を基盤に持続的な成長を実現したいという思いがある。

ウェルチは企業買収売却を検討する際、その事業がもたらすであろう中長期的な利益にはあまり興味を示さなかったらしいが、それと比較すると、彼が掲げた戦略は、正に「転換」と言える。

残念ながら本書では、上記の戦略を実現する為に実施したいくつかのメソッドについて紹介はあるものの、その詳細な内容や具体的成果についての記述はない。

しかし、「企業を時代に適応させるリーダーを選択する」ということの重みが感じられ、その意味で当初の期待に応えてくれる内容であった。

９・１１テロという時代の転換を象徴するような出来事の後、アメリカでは「変化」を訴え、初の黒人大統領が誕生した。

「ＧＥのオバマ」にもみえるイメルトが何を実現するのか。
いましばらく歴史を見守りたい。


This book outlined a strategy and charactor of current GE's CEO, Jeff Immelt who is a successor to Jack Welch, a ever legend of management in the history of business.
I'd like to learn why did they choose him at the time.

Jack Welch had enlarged sales of GE 4 times more than before he was chosen CEO of the company.
He had set up "rationalization and multilateralization" as a strategy for GE's growth. For the purpose, he had taken a two core policies, a active business aquisition or disposal and a pay-per-performance system related to quarterly result.
He had thoroughly excecuted the strategy. The strategy had exactly matched 20 years period of the end of 20 century. It was a high economic growth period.

Needless to say, it is absolutely difficult to take over the charismatic leader in all industries and duties.
Furthermore, Jeff Immelt was putted on the stage only 4 days 9.11 occured.

He took a new strategy to overcome the harrowing event, to bring up more growth for GE's future. He is aiming to change GE into innovation-based company. He has highlighted what a CEO should do is to build a steady business system for all stake holders. At the base of his mind, there is a idea which to realize sutainable growth to GE's future, based on high quality knowkedge and technology.
When considering a business aquisition or sellout, Walch was not interested in a long term profit the businesses may achieve. He focused on its short term profit. As compared to the policy, the new concept truly means "switch."

Unfortunatelly, there is only a brief introduction of his method and is not write down the specific result.
However, I was really satisfied with the contents because I learned that Serrecting suitable a right person who fits with the time is significant.

After 9・11, first black president was born in US. He required US citizens to change and he is the change.
I think Immelt seems to be "GE's Barack Obama."
What make he will.
