Rock On~

Do you know what this is?

It's called Bikkuriman Chocolate!
I used to eat this when I was a child!
I was just at the convenience store and they sold it there!

I remember getting 3 of these for Valentine's day when I was in kindergarten~

Just a little history on these chocolates.
(Thanks to wiki~)
Bikkuriman was a waffle peanut and chocolate snack made by Lotte, started in 1987,
that sold for 30 yen at the time.
It came with one randomly assorted Bikkuriman bonus sticker which was used to play a simple tag like game that required the player's to stick the sticker onto their foreheads.

The stickers were divided into sets called "Dan". Within each "dan" there is one ultra rare "Head" which was often sparkly with prism or holographic type designs.
Among the kids some of these sold for 1000 yen (roughly $10 USA) or more, the highest being 5000 yen.

The rest of the normal stickers were divided into 3 types. Devil, Angel and Protectors.
The angel's were metallic silver or gold but were not nearly as valuable as the Heads.
And the protectors had clear backgrounds.
The devils were the most common and considered not valuable.

These stickers were a huge success, manga comic books and Anime series were made.
And later on there was also an ice cream bar which also had the stickers, they began from the first set for people who started collecting later.

These collectible stickers became such a huge hit, and it was the first proper and massive collectible item for kids done in Japan that had rare and common value system.

Soon after came the rise of collectible cards. SD Gundam and Dragon Ball were the first to jump on this band wagon. And eventually give rise to mega successful CCG (Collectible Card Games) such as Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh, but it all began with Bikkuriman.

These Bikkuriman was so popular that kids were just buying them for the collectable stickers and throwing away the chocolates.
There were millions of uneaten chocolates thrown away, that the Japanese government and the chocolate factory had to put rules for the buyers.

I used to get it at the supermarket near my home in Japan.
At the store there was this poster saying
"2 Bikkuriman chocolates per person per day"

You know what I used to do?
I would buy it, then go home and get changed into a different set of clothes,
then go back and buy some more! hahaha
They all knew the local kids, so I think they knew who I was... hahaha

Wonder what sticker I'm gonna get this time!!!

Rock On~
