もっと勉強。。。。。

昨日は事務所で新曲をまたスタッフに聞かせて来ました。
週１回はみんなで会ってます。
毎回オレの新曲を聞いてくれて色々と意見やアドバイスを言ってくれます。

オレが作曲を始めたのは本当に２年前、初めて音楽活動で来日してから。
その前はバイオリンplayerとして５歳からずっとやってきた。
クラシックをやってた頃は音楽理論とかあんまり好きじゃなかった。
好きじゃないって言うよりも譜面のまんま練習して演奏する事だけやってた。　ソロも、カルテットも、オーケストラも譜面のまんま。

カルテットでポップスとかJAZZをやり始めた頃からはコード感を少しずつ意識し始めた。
1stバイオリン、2ndバイオリン、ビオラ、チェロ、みんなの１つ１つの音を重ねた時＝コードなんだ！って理解し始めた。

バイオリンとギターの違いは、バイオリンはメロディーの楽器、ギターはメロディーも弾けるけどコードでバッキングも出来る楽器。

大学院に入ってジャズ・コンテンポラリー バイオリンを学んだ。
「そこでコードとか音楽理論をいっぱい勉強したでしょ？」って思うよね？
実はそんなにしてない・・・
コードよりも色んなバイオリンのスタイルを学んだ。（Rock, Jazz, Pops, Gypsy)
「じゃ何でセッションとかアドリブが出来るの？」って聞かれる。
それは、コードとかを耳で聞いて心と体で感じて自然に出て来るんだ。
それこそ本当にその場でしか弾けないメロディー、freeなメロディー。
それがmy style。

小さい頃、音楽理論の家庭教師がいたのを覚えてる。
何も頭に入らなかったけど、授業中に
『マジつまんないよ。こんな理論なんて将来ぜったい使わないし、
バイオリン弾けるからそれで別に良いのに。』なんて思ってた。

それが大間違い！！！！
来日して日本でアーティストとしてデビューして曲作りを始めて、どれだけ音楽理論が大事か改めて思ったよ。

まぁ、音楽理論が全く分からないことじゃないよ。
一応ガキの頃から理論の授業とか行ってたからbasicな事は分かる。w

でもコード進行とか普段使わないコードとかをもっと理解した方が作曲にすごいhelpになると思って。

バイオリンを２０年以上やってるから良いメロディーはいっぱい出て来る。
だけど、コードをもっといっぱい勉強したらより良いメロディーが出来ると思う。


その話しを昨日、事務所でスタッフとしてた。

新曲が全部次のアルバムにのるわけでもない。何十曲に１曲位ヒットがあるかないか。
だから毎回ドキドキなんだよね～w


帰りにディレクターさんから励まされた。
「KATEI君なら絶対出来るって！頑張りな！」

勇気をもらった。
気合いをもらった。
元気をもらった。

「悩む事は良い事だよ。」とか「みんな、特にファンは期待してるからね！」ってスタッフも言ってくれた。

オレは本当に恵まれてると思う。
スタッフ全員、オレの新曲の良い部分も悪い部分もちゃんと言ってくれるし、いっぱいアドバイスもしてくれる。
オレはスタッフ全員が大好きなんだ。
いつもありがたいと思ってる。
本当にありがとうございます！！！

という事で、さっそく本屋さんで色んな本をGET！！！
音楽理論の本とか作曲の本とか色々！！

もっと勉強してもっと理解して、今までより良い曲を作るぞ！！！
バイオリンはメロディーの楽器だけどギターみたいにコードの事もいっぱい理解して、アドリブの時にもコード進行をもっと理解しながらfreeに演奏するぜ！

今回は音楽理論をしっかり１から勉強します！w

I was at the agency yesterday showing my staff my new songs.
We meet up once a week.
They listen to my new materials and give me lots of advice.

I started writing my own original songs from 2 years ago, when I first came to Japan to pursue my musical career.
Before that, I was just a violin player since the age of 5.
Just a regular musician.
Back in my classical days, I hated music theory.
Well, I didn't actually "hate" it... but all I had to do was play my violin from what's been written on my sheet music, from solo stuff to string quartet to orchestra music.
Just play what's been written.

With my string quartet, we played a lot of popular songs and Jazz too.
That's when I started to understand the meaning of 'chords'.
All the single notes from the 1st violin, 2nd violin, viola and cello, all form a certain chord.

The main difference between a violin and a guitar is:
Violin is a melodic instrument, where guitar can also play melodies but also plays chords.

I studied Jazz/contemporary violin for my master.
You might be thinking,
"Then you should of studied lots of musica theory and chords rite?"

Actually... no.

I learned a lot about different violin styles in different genres of music.
(Rock, Jazz, Pops, Gypsy)

Then you might be thinking,
"How come you can improvise?"

Well, I listen to the chord progression with my ears, and use my heart and body to feel it.
Then it just comes out naturally.
That's what I consider real 'free' melody.
That's been my style.

When I was a kid, I remember having music theory tutor.
I don't remember learning much, but I remember thinking...
"This is so boring. I'm never gonna use these music theory in my life. I can play the violin so that's enough for me."


Man, I was sooooo wrong!!!
Since I came to Japan and started writing my own music, I've realised how important music theory is!!!
Well... it's not that I don't know any music theory...
I do know the basics.

But chord progressions and fancy chords I don't know much about.
And if I understood it more, I know it'll help with my song writing.

I've been playing my violin for over 20 years so it's natural for me to write good melodies.
But if I have a better understanding of chords and chord progressions, I know I can write even better melodies than now.


That's what we talked about yesterday with my staff at the meeting.

Not all new songs I write will be on the next album.
Every 10 songs I write, there might be a chance of 1 hit song.
That's why I get nervous when I have to show them my new songs~ haha

On the way home, my director encouraged me a lot and gave me some words of support.
"You can do it KATEI, I know you can! Just work hard at it!"

He gave me courage.
He gave me energy.
He gave me power.

My staff also said "The more you think about it, the better it gets!" and "Everyone believes in you and is looking forward to hearing your music! Especially your fans!"

I'm so blessed to have these great staff working with me.
They listen to all my new songs, tell me the good things and the bad, AND gives me lots of advice.
I love my staff so much!!

SO! I went to a book store and bought some books to study!!!
Music Theory books and composition books!!

I'm gonna study so hard and write even better songs!!
Violin is a melodic instrument, but I'll start to think more about chords like a guitar, so that even when I'm improvising, I can be free AND be thinking about chord progression at the same time!!

I'll study hard on my music theory this time! I promise!! hehe
