先日、１００メートルの予選でのこと。
やけに 遅いランナーがいた。 スタートから 他の選手と
かなり 出遅れていた。
彼の名前は、ツバル君、１７歳 サモアという島からの代表選手だ。
彼は、もともと 砲丸投げの選手。(shot put)
しかし 砲丸投げでは、出場が果たせなかった。
あきらめかけたが、彼は、１００メートルに挑む。
大会までの１ヶ月間 １日４時間の練習をつみ
今回の１００メートル 出場を果たした。
"I believed in myself," he said afterward. "This is a dream come true."
「自分を信じたよ、絶対に出場するんだって。 夢が叶った。」
タイトルが面白いでしょ。

World Athletics Championships - Sprinter clocks 15.66 for 100m
An athlete from American Samoa delighted the crowd at the World Championships
by taking part in the 100m heats and clocking an extraordinary 15.66 seconds.
Sogelau Tuvalu from the tiny South Pacific nation of American Samoa had
originally hoped to go to South Korea to take part in the shot put.
But after failing to qualify for the event, the 17-year-old instead decided
to turn his sights to the 100m, and entered the preliminary rounds.
Tuvalu told French TV that he had actually trained four hours a day for a month
leading up to the championships.
"I believed in myself," he said afterward. "This is a dream come true."
