熊本でも先週から急に寒くなった。
半袖のTシャツにショーツで過ごしていたのに、
急にTシャツの上に長袖のシャツ、
長ズボンでなければ寒く感じるようになった。
また、最終出勤日が11月末、
その後2か月の有休期間、
退職日が1月末に決まった。
仕事の引継ぎも始まり
急に会社生活の終わりが見えてきた。
12月以降の予定も
引っ越しだけじゃなく、
友達と忘年会や旅行の計画を
話し合い始めた。
いよいよだ、もう少しの我慢だと思う。
It has suddenlu become cold in Kumamoto since last week.
I used to wear short-sleeved T-shirts and shorts,
but suddenly I started feeling cold
unless I wear a long-sleeve shirt
and long pants over the T-shirt.
Also, my last day of work is at the end of November,
amd after two months of paid holiday leave,
my retirement is set to be at the end of January.
The handover of work has begun,
and suddenly the end of my company life is in sight.
My plans for December adn beyond are not just moving,
but I've also started talking with friends
about year-ned parties and travel plans.
It's finally time, I think I'll just have to
be patient a little longer.
I believe moving will help me grow
and move into a new chapter of my life.
愛知県蒲郡市にある水族館館長が書いた本を読んだ。
竹島水族館というとても小さな水族館の
人気を回復していった過程を描いた
ビジネス書のようなエッセイだ。
会社を辞めようとしているボクが
そんなビジネスに関する本を読もうと思ったのは
15年以上前に、
この水族館に数回行ったことがあったのと、
この館長とも話したことがあったからだ。
そのころのボクは
海水魚を飼育しようとしていて、
その方法を館長に教えてもらった。
海水魚の飼育は淡水魚に比べて格段に難しくて、
海と違い小さな水槽では
塩分濃度や温度がすぐに大きく変わってしまう。
1年以上維持していて、
ヒーターの故障で
水槽が鍋のようになり、
ブイヤベースになってしまったので、
海水魚飼育は止めてしまった。
ボクが竹島水族館に行ったころは
入館者数がどん底のころで、
週末でもほとんどガラガラだった。
その後、
深海に住むタカアシガニやオオグソクムシが
触れる水槽や、
味のことまで書かれた手書きのネームプレート、
カピパラのショー、
オオグソクムシなどのグッズやお土産を開発し、
入館者数はボクが竹島水族館に行った
15年前の3倍以上になっている。
館長やスタッフの熱意に感心した。
大きく変わった水族館に
また、行きたいなと思った。
I read a book written by the director of an aquarium
in Gamagori City, Aichi Prefecture.
This is an essay that readslike a business book
and describes the process by which a very
small acquarium called Takeshima Aquarium
regarding its popularity.
The reason I wanted to read a book about business,
as I was about to quit my job,
was because I had been to this aquarium
several times over 15 years ago,
and I had also talked with him.
At that time, I was trying to raise saltwater fish,
and the taught me how to do so.
Rising saltwaer fish is much more difficult
than raising freshwater fish,
and unlike in the ocean, salinity and temperature
can quickly change dramatically in a small aquarium.
After learning from him,
I raised saltwater fish for over a year,
but due to a maltfunction in the heater,
the aquarium turned into a
'bouillabaisse',
so I stopped raising saltwater fish.
When I went to Takeshima aquarium,
the number of visitors at its lowest point,
and even on weekends it was empty.
After that they created an aquarium
where the spider crabs and giant beetles
that live in the deep sea could be toughed by visitors.
They also begun attaching handwritten name plates
with information about their taste to the tanks,
as wall as begun holding capybara shows,
and developing goods such as giant beetles.
The number of visitors is more than triple
what it was 15 years ago
when I went to Takeshima Aquarium.
I was impressed
by the enthusiasm of the director and stuff.
I thought I would like to go to the aquarium again,
which has changed a lot.
