Today was the first 'class' of the English teaching/tutoring program I've volunteered for.

Basically, we're supposed to help out immigrants with whatever they'd like to learn, involving English.

Anyways...a few of us grouped together to help the cutest Mexican lady, today. アップ

She works as a maid in a nearby hotel, and she was really really sweet, as middle-aged Latin American women tend to be. (Spending the past 3 years learning Japanese and dealing with Japanese people, I'd forgotten how warm certain other cultures are!)

She wanted to know how to say various things relating to her work, ranging from "Do you need new towels?", to phrases for getting to know her coworkers, and she said she really likes her work 音譜 (which I found oddly heart-warming?)

Other than that... the weather's been cooling down, even if just a bit. The other night the moon was big and orange, as if to signal autumn's approach -- it's reached the time of year that's perfect for nighttime strolls 流れ星

Until next time!
Selfish and greedy people are obnoxious, aren't they? Lately, I'm trying to become a little more generous.
Although I'm in my 4th year at UF, it seems like there are always places to explore. Today, I visited... the UF Dental Store! Yes, that's right, we've got a store for dental supplies. It's in Shands. Anyways, everything's discounted... so, the fancy name-brand toothbrushes that I'm usually too cheap to buy... a pack of 12 of them, was only 3 dollars!! Fancy name-brand whitening toothpaste... only 1 dollar per tube!音譜

Anyways, it excited me.

One thing I think I'm more particular about than most people, is lighting.

Very rarely in my life have I walked into a room, flipped the switch, and thought, "Yeah, this will do!"

I can't stand cool-lighting, to the point that I'd rather light a few candles and deal with that, than just switch on a fluorescent light bulb and call it a day.

Because of this, lamps with cream-colored or white paper shades on them are must-haves, for me -- and when someone walks into my room before me, and casually flips the room's switch, I go a little crazy. I flip it off immediately, and walk over to click on one of my lamps.

Here I present to you some gossip about a man with a temper, from around 400 A.D.

"Wang Shu was by nature extremely short-tempered. Once while he was attempting to eat a hard-boiled egg, he speared it with his chopstick, but failed to get a hold of it. Immediately flying into a great rage, he picked it up and hurled it to the ground. The egg rolled around on the ground and had not yet come to rest when he got down on the ground and stamped on it with the cleats of his clogs, but again failed to get hold of it. Thoroughly infuriated, he once more picked it up from the ground and put it in his mouth. After biting it to pieces, he immediately spewed it out.

When (Shu's lifelong enemy, the calligrapher) Wang Xizhi heard about it, he laughed aloud and said, 'Even if his father, Wang Cheng, had had a temper like this, there still wouldn't be a single redeeming feature about him worth discussing. How much less so in the case of Wang Shu!'"
