About Mobile Phones in Rwanda
さて今回はルワンダの携帯電話事情について投稿したいと思います。
ルワンダの人は携帯電話を使うのが本当に好きです。携帯電話で話すのも好きだし、常に携帯をいじくっているイメージです。娯楽が少なくてやることが無いからかなと思います。
授業中でさえ先生たちは電話をします。
I am going to post about mobile phones in Rwanda.
Rwandan people really love to use their mobile phones. They like to talk with mobile phones and always touch their phones. Due to lack of entertainment, they don’t have things to do in their free time. This is why they love mobile phones.

ちなみにこちらではiPhone のようなスマホは高級品です。iPhone ではありませんが、さすがに先生たちはスマホを持っています。
多くの人はいわゆるガラケーを使っています。

Smartphones such as iPhone are very expensive and are regarded as luxury products here. Teachers have smartphones (not iPhone).
Many people have simple mobile phones.
ルワンダにはMTN、airtelという大きな二つの携帯電話の会社がありますが、首都キガリで最初に泊まっていたホテルの近くにたまたまMTNの営業所があったので、ずっとMTNを使用しています。MTNもairtelも大差はないと思います。
We have two major mobile phone companies called MTN and Airtel. There’s a MTN office near my hotel which I stayed in Kigali at first. So I conrtacted MTN and have used since then. I think there are no big differences between MTN and Airtel.

家からバスて20分くらいのところにある一番近い営業所です。携帯電話を盗まれた時にSIMカードを停止するために来ました。今となっては良い思い出ですが。
ちなみにSIMカードの再発行手数料の値段はどれくらいかかると思いますか？

This is the nearest MTN office. It takes about 20 minutes from my house by bus.
When my mobile phone was stolen, I came here to stop my SIM cards. It has becomes a good memory for me now.
How much do you think the cost of reissuing a new SIM card?
確か500ルワンダフランだったと思います。日本円でわずか60円ほどです。
I think it probably costs 500 Rwandan Franc (It costs only 60 JPY).
我が街のAirtelの営業所
MTNの企業カラーが黄色なのに対して、Airtelは赤です。おもしろいことにバイクタクシーのヘルメットは宣伝で全てがAirtelの赤になります。

The company color of MTN is yellow. On the other hand, Airtel’s color is red. Interestingly, the helmets of motorcycle taxi riders are all red. It comes from Airtel’s commercial.
それにしてもこの写真で見ると、ヘルメットは本当に赤、赤、赤です。おもしろいですね。
The color of helmets are really all red like you can see in this picture. It is very interesting.
ルワンダでは電気、水道代は携帯電話で払えます。あと多くのお店でも携帯電話での支払いが可能です。基本的に全て前払いですが、非常に便利です。
続いて携帯電話の料金プランを説明します。
We can pay the fee for the water and electricity by mobile phones in Rwanda. And also we can pay in many shops by mobile phones. I think all of them are basically prepaid and very useful.
I am going to show the prices for using a mobile phone.
上の写真の黄色のプランを使用しています。1日のデータ使用量の上限が2GBで、1ヶ月の上限か60GB、値段は5000ルワンダフラン（日本円で600円ほど）です。つまり月の携帯電話料金は5000ルワンダフランになります。日本に比べると安いですね。
さて、通信速度はどうでしょう。
