World Cup in Rwanda
ルワンダでのワールドカップ
サッカーはルワンダでも最も人気のあるスポーツです。ちなみにサッカーという言葉あまり通じなく、フットボールです。サッカーはアメリカでの呼び方のようです。
Soccer is the most popular sport in Rwanda. It is said football not soccer here. The word soccer mainly seems to be used in USA.
ある生徒のドイツ戦後の小テストです。ドイツに2-1で勝ってくれてありがとうと書いてありました。
This is a student’s test after Germany vs Japan. The paper says “thank you for you first win against Germany 2-1”.
先週の日曜日(12/18)は同僚に誘われてワールドカップの決勝をバーで観戦しました。多くの家にはTVはないので、この様(下の写真)に大勢の人がバーに集まって1台のTVを囲みます。
By the way, I went to the bar in my town to watch World Cup final with my colleagues last Sunday(12/18). Because a lot of people don’t have TV in their house, we usually watch TV like this(next photo).
バーの中(外？)です。ビールは非常に安いです、水しか飲めないのですが…みんなこんな感じでサッカーに熱中しています。
Inside(Outside) of the bar. Though I can only drink water, the beer is very cheap here. Everybody inside bar is watching TV with great enthusiasm.
昔、大相撲や巨人戦を大勢で観ていたのと似ているかもしれません。通常の家庭にはTV、洗濯機、冷蔵庫のないこの地域は日本の昭和に近いようにも感じます。
It might be similar to watch Sumo or baseball games(especially Giants game) a long time ago in Japan. Ordinary people don’t have TV, washing machine and fridge. So it may be like the Japanese Showa era.
外で観ている少年もいます。
The boys were watching outside.
同僚が席をゲットしてくれたため、座って観戦することができましたが、立見も大勢います。
Though my colleagues could get my seat, there were a lot of people standing to watch TV.
盛り上がりつつ観戦していたのですが…
I was enjoying to watch with much excitement.
そうです、ここは途上国です。
何かが起こるんです。
Yes. Something will happen in developing countries like here.
嫌な予感がしていました。
I had a bad feeling.
やはり起きてしまいました。
It happened as I have expected.
いきなり停電です。
It was blackouts.
停電がおこった時の周りの人の反応は「えっ今？」みたいな感じでした。
おもしろかったです。
When blackout started, people’s reaction was interesting. They felt like why now?
左上:停電中(お通夜のようになっていました)

下左:ゴールシーン

Bottom right :Goal scene(someone was jumping)
アルゼンチン得点シーン。興奮しすぎです。
何故かわかりませんが、アルゼンチンファンの方が多かった気がします。
After Argentina got goal with a lot of excitement. I think the number of Argentina supporters are larger than France’s. I don’t know why it is.
何はともあれ、非常に良い試合を観戦することができました。今回のワールドカップでは、ルワンダは時差-1時間だったため観戦しやすかったです。この1ヶ月間、本当に楽しむことができました。
Anyway I could watch the best game with great enthusiasm. Since the time difference is -1hr, It is much easier to watch. I could really enjoy this world so much.

世界最高のサッカー選手であるメッシでさえワールドカップを制するのに5大会、16年を要しました。山の頂に登ることは如何に難しいことなのかが理解できます。
Lionel Messi is regarded as the greatest footballer. Even he took 5 times World Cup (it means 16 years) to get championship. I could understand how difficult to stand on top of the world.
