少し早く着いたので、山下公園で撮影してきました。明日天気が良ければ、夕焼けや夜景に挑戦してみようと思います。

このワークショップは毎年11月にハワイ島で行われているのですが、
ププ湯澤さん達の計らいで日本でも開催することになりました。
ハワイ語講座などもあり、とても刺激を受けました。
写真の左側にいるブルーのキャップをかぶっているのが
ケオキカフモクさんです。
お昼はBBQ。
さすが樋口さんセレクトなので、お肉もボリューム満点ですが軟らかく、
ぺろりと完食してしまいました。
スペアリブもとてもおいしかったです。
来年もあればぜひ参加したいと思いました。

送ったタイミングがとっても悪かった、
というかお休みの日に送っていてスルーされていたようです。
しかし、丁寧なお返事がきました。
いつオーダーしようか迷います。
まずは妻に相談かな？？

Thank you for your interest in Kamaka Hawaii, Inc. I'm very sorry we missed your emails. Ironically, you sent one during our Memorial Day holiday, and the second one during our Kamehameha Day holiday.
I am not sure what size ukulele you are interested in, but our prices are listed on our website http://kamakahawaii.com/instruments.html. That would be your base price for a regular ukulele. Once you add features, it becomes a "Special", which I understand you are looking at.
Kamaka "Specials" are semi-custom ukuleles with certain features that are added based on your specifications. The features available for "specials" include:
Koa 3A Premium Curl Wood $360 more
Koa 4A Premium Full Curl Wood $600 more
Spruce Top $50 more
Ebony Fingerboard and Bridge $75 more
Kamaka Hawaii, Inc. installs Fishman pickups and have two types - ACTIVE ($200) and PASSIVE ($125). Both are under-the-saddle, which means that the sound is "picked up" off of the bridge as opposed to the soundboard; it is a cleaner sound.
Active pickups are best for playing to large crowds, for more professional work. Kamaka's active uses a 9 volt battery located in a pouch in the ukulele to boost the signal to the amp. The input jack is located at the base of the ukulele because there is a block of wood there.
Passive pickups are best for playing for church, school, or kanikapila style with a group of friends. They are convenient and require no power source to operate (wire wound around a magnet). Their output is low, and the harmonic content of output depends greatly on the winding.
You can peruse our website to get a better idea of what you want, then email sales@kamakahawaii.com to place your order. Our sales staff will help you. We have a Japanese speaking salesperson if you prefer. Let us know first what size you want, and then we can work on the specials you want to add.
It takes 3-5 weeks to build a regular ukulele once you place your order. If you add "specials" it may take an additional 2-4 weeks. We have sufficient time to place your order and have it ready for you when you come in September. We look forward to hearing from you.

オハナフェスティバルというチャリティイベントに参加してきました。
参加アーティストはみなKoAlohaを使っていて、
KoAlohaの職人も来日されていました。
ウクレレ、フラ、ウッドクラフト、レイメイキングのワークショップ、
特にフラのワークショップはネイサンなどの有名アーティストの演奏で
踊ることができるなど夢のようなワークショップでした。
申し込みも遅く、ウクレレを持参できなかったため
ワークショップに参加できませんでしたが、
ジュニマネにまた久々にお会いでき、
ジュニアやネイサンともご挨拶できたので、
良い思い出ができました。
ウクレレのカスタムオーダーの話を聞けたのですが、
KoAlohaのポールに作成を依頼すると
4，5年以上待つとのこと。
気が遠くなりそうな注文なので、
少し考えようと思います。
