Sasa-dango

Sasa-dango is made with rice cake, small beans and bamboo leaf.

Sasa means bamboo and dango means dumpling.

Rice cake is wrapped with bamboo leaf and azuki (boiled small beans) is inside the rice cake.

Yomogi (edible leaf) is kneaded the rice cake. This is a peculiarity of Niigata.

If there was no bamboo leaf, we call it Kusa-mochi. Kusa-mochi is eaten in the Girl’s Festival.
