You know what I love about Japan? That you can slip into a small restaurant the size of a bathroom owned by a nondescript, elderly man not expecting much and then to have your taste buds assaulted by something which is pure genuis. First, the broth was almost transparent in colour (admittedly doesn't look it in the photo) and the pieces of pork floating gently in it were pink (cooked through - no worries) and succulent. I can't remember how much the dish cost - so blown away was I by this little restaurant in Hibarigaoka (definitely not a trendy area of Tokyo), but it was less than 1,000 yen. I only popped in because I thought it would be fast and easy and I only had 30 mins.
