Miki and I will be going to the hide Memorial Summit on May 3rd and May 4th. There are a bunch of bands I'm really excited to see, a few I am interested in checking out, and a couple I just plain don't understand why they'll be performing.
May 3rd: hide with Spread Beaver, T.M.Revolution, DJ OZMA, RIZE, Maximum the Hormone, Hurdy Gurdy, Phantasmagoria, Versailles, MarBell, and Daizy Stripper
My impression of Daizy Stripper after listening to one of their songs is that they are a pop group in Visual disguise. I don't understand why they'll be performing.
MarBell? who? After doing some searching, all I can find is a handful of covers of Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr songs. Unless these are former LEMONed band members, I don't understand why they'll be performing.
Versailles. Kamijo can finally sing un-annoyingly!? Music that sounds like X!? Too band he still acts like a drama queen. That could be because he wants to be Yoshiki. I am interested in checking them out.
Phantasmagoria. Even if these guys have no direct connection to hide, Jun obviously worships him. It is a shame these guys have called it quits, even if they throw pointless keyboards over everything, I like them. I'm really excited to see them.
Hurdy Gurdy. Ex-Zeppet Store. He obviouslt owes a lot to hide. I watched a Youtube video and I don't know if I like the music all that much but I am interested in checking them out.
Maximum the Hormone. Why? What connection do they have to hide? I am interested in seeing them but don't understand why they are here.
RIZE. I.N.A. is producing them, they are huge fans of hide and they have even covered pink spider and released it as a single. I'm not sure of their own music yet I am interested to hear them.
DJ OZMA. Why? Seriously, why the hell is he on this bill. He claims to be a big fan but I just don't understand the logic behind having a pop/rap guy on a bill for a musician who got his start in heavy metal? Ugh, maybe he'll do something cool in tribute to hide but I'm not holding my breath.
T.M.Revolution. I'd rather see a.b.s. but I guess it makes more sense for him to perform as T.M for this festival since thats all he performed in when he knew hide. I'm not 100% sure why he'll be there though but I am interested to see him.
hide with Spread Beaver. A reunion of hide with SB? Wow, I never thought I'd see the day. I wonder if Chirolyn, Kiyoshi and D.I.E. will be sharing vocal duty like during the JaZoo tour or if it will be all prerecorded hide vocals. I guess I'll have to wait and see. Obviously I am really excited to see them.
May 4th: X JAPAN, Luna Sea, Dir en grey, Oblivion Dust, MUCC, D'espairsRay, The Underneath, and Heidi.
I don't really know anything about Heidi but I am excited about the prospect of seeing all of the other bands. Even Heidi makes sense though. They are managed by hide's management company Head Wax.
So really the 4th is all but perfect in my opinion but the 3rd could use some improvement.
