Went to ToC last night in San Antonio. I prefer this town to Dallas but, it didn't seem as cool as everyone makes it out to be. Anyway, on to the show.

1st Band: The Fight Scene. I liked them much more than I like Darby from Dallas. These guys were a hardcore band from Houston and if it wasn't for the occasional emo-ish vocals from the guitarist they would have been really good (in a simplistic yet creative punkish sort of way).

2nd Band: D'espairsray. Zero, the bassist looks like a chick. Sorry, I am suppose to be talking about the music. Well, they were good again. It's too bad my fan-dom of this band doesn't extend past the last week but better late than never, right? Here is the set list to the best of my recollection. I believe it was the same in Dallas.

1 - Damned
2 - Trickster
3 - Garnet (it sounds better live than recorded)
4 - Screen
5 - SIXty NINe
6 - ? (sorry, not sure what this song was)

3rd Band: Idiot Pilot. I "got it" this time. Still not going to call myself a fan, not by a long shot. And why are they on a tour like Taste of Chaos? This tour is 15 different kinds of corporate. I almost feel like I lost my "holier than thou because my favorite band is way more obscure than your favorite band" credentials just by being there. These guys should be playing basements and coffee shops in college towns. All the college radio nerds would love them. But here? WRONG, sucks to be you Idiot Pilot.

4th Band: Mucc. Thank god they sounded better this time. If they had sounded like they did in Dallas I would have lost some faith in Tatsurou and crew. Oh and prior to this show I had gotten tired of Fuzz but they performed it so well that I like it anew. The set list was the same as Dallas and I can now tell you that the third song was Shion. I am still not 100% sure what the fifth song was.

5th Band: The Underneath. They got a better reception from the audience in Dallas. In fact I think they performed better in Dallas. Well, I know they played Gekkoh, Fatty Fatty Fuckin' Pigs and Deep. I don't remember what else they played.

After this we left the auditorium to check out the signing sessions. We didn't have anything for D'espairsray so we bypassed them. I guess I could have bought that live dvd they were selling but I didn't. Oh well.

We brought Akaban and Aoban for Mucc to sign. They alternated being shocked at their own pictures from back then and at the fact that I actually own them. Tatsurou gave me a thumbs up. I tried to talk to him. All I got was the typical "I'm Japanese and am too ashamed to admit I have no clue what you are saying" stare and noncommittal grunts as responses. Miki told him and Yukke that we'd be at their show in Fukuoka next month and they got all excited. Then Miki, knowing Yukke likes mangos, gave him some dehydrated chilli flavored mangos. The chilli is strong enough that any sane man will hate them, which is exactly why I love them. He was probably freaked out by them.

*random integration* I just listened to the Danger Crue sampler they gave out at the show and I was surprised that 176BIZ doesn't suck.

The Underneath remembered Miki and me from Dallas. Boy were they shocked when we brought out a couple singles from 2001 - 2002 when they were still Transtic Nerve for them to sign.

Unfortunately/Fortunately, we missed Bullet for my Valentine and blessthefall while doing all this. I would have liked to check out blessthefall but I probably wouldn't like them.

8th Band: Atreyu. @#*&)$%^@#)*&$^)!*@#&#^$)*!@#&^ I can't even tell you how much I hated this band. If they had long hair and it was 1984, they would have been awesome. But when its 2008, you play bad hair metal, minus any long hair and think its fresh and new just because you throw out the occasional line of hardcore vocals, you should probably commit suicide. So should your parents. In fact call me first so I can watch you die. Ugh, I'm getting pissed off just remembering the crap-titude of it all.

Final Band: Avenged Sevenfold. They were great. Makes me wish I had taken the time to prepare for them by listened to their old albums and buying their new album. I guess I should repent for not doing so by at least buying their new album.
