JANZEC Comes to Awapiko
Last month was a busy time at Awapiko.
A group of seven guests from JANZEC (Japan New Zealand Executive Club) came to stay.
I went to meet them at the airport.
So did Gisborne Mayor Meng. Quite a surprise, especially as he had just been re-elected the day before!
It was a perfect spring day, the sort of weather we often have in Gisborne.
We went to the top of Kaiti Hill to get a panoramic view of the city, had lunch, still with the Mayor.
Then we drove off to Awapiko, an hour away.
The afternoon was marvellous. The views were superb, at their best.
The barbecue laid on by our Manager John was sensational: venison and wild pork that he had caught himself in the Awapiko bush!
As evening fell, an incredible display of millions of stars, in brilliant technicolor!
The next morning, it snowed!
We trudged down to Awapiko Falls through the snow and mud. Tough, but well worth the effort.
On the way back the road was blocked by a flock of sheep.
The next two days were great fun despite the weather. We visited Millton organic winery, the Museum, the Town Hall, a fantastic fresh seafood restaurant on the beach...
We paid a formal visit to a local Maori Marae and enjoyed a specially cooked Hangi dinner, with entertainment.
Early Wednesday morning the group left for Christchurch. A good thing they left early, because after 11.30 heavy rains cancelled all the flights for the rest of the day!
JANZEC のアワピコ訪問
先月アワピコでは忙しい時でした。
JANZEC （日本ニュー・ジーランド エグゼクティブ クラブ）
から７人のお客さんが泊まりに来ました。
私はギズボーン空港まで向かいに行きました。
ギズボーンのメング市長も空港まで向かいに来てくれました。
その前の日市長選挙に再選されましたばかりでした！
ピン空の素晴らしい春の日でした。
一緒にカイティ・ヒルを上って町と海の見晴しを楽しんでから近くのレストランで昼飯を食べました。
そして、市長と別れて、１時間かけてアワピコへ向かいました。
夕方は最高でした。
アワピコの何とも言えない美しい景色！
家のマネジャーのジョン が自分自身でアワピコの森で獲った鹿と野ぶたの肉のユニークなBBQ.
夜が深めると他で見えない夕空：
色豊かな星々何百万個が手が届くぐらいな感じで輝いている。
翌朝、雪が降りました！
雪と泥を我慢して、なが靴はいてアワピコの滝まで下りました。
つらいけど、価値がありました。
帰り道は、羊の渋滞。
それからの２日間は悪天候を無視して大変楽しく過ごしました。
ミルトンの有機栽培ワイナリー、
ギズボーン博物館、市役所、
浜辺の取り立て海鮮料理や等などへ行きました。
近くのマオリのマラエを正式な訪問しまして、
伝統的なハンギ料理をごちそうになりました。
水曜日の朝早く、団体はクライストチャーチへ向かって行きました。
早く出てよかった。
その日、11時半から、大雨の為全ての瓶はカンセルとなりました！
