This is one interesting book for Japanese speakers. This is The Study of All Japan Distribution Map of “Aho” & “Baka.” (Zenkoku Aho Baka Bunpu Ko, Osamu Matsumoto, 1993). Two of the most popular insulting words in Japan are “baka” and “aho,” and both mean stupid or idiot. Roughly speaking, “baka” is used in Tokyo and “aho” is used in Osaka. So where is the border line of those two words? This is started as a TV program and, in the end, they made the super detailed distribution map which is now used in linguistic geography.
