in heated mid-Summer,
oh boy, these costumes must be too hot!
with strong responsibility, they can do anything!
yeah, it’s a ritual
during Mishima Grand Shrine Festival, there are some events
but the most interesting one for Sarah is
“Yabusame”, the art of shooting arrows on horseback
the shrine priest too joining the event as a jockey
the origin of this event can be traced back to 1185
when one of the great Shoguns, MinamotonoYoritoko offered
his prayer, he also made his soldiers to perform this art
since then the event was held for 685 years,
but during Meiji Era, in 1871, it was banned by the Meiji Government
then in 1984, after the 113-year interval,
again, the event started being performed
on the last day of the festival
(formerly, it was held three times a year)
they are not in high spirits?
don’t worry, now they are just running slowly
for their horses to get inured
the riding ground has 240 m long, it is said that
one of the longest in japan
lovely, so close!
ok, now they are ready to start performing
there are three shooting points, and this one is the last one
just started though. . .
more photos are coming tomorrow!
