SUNSHINE streamed down onto Yarm's High Street as people flocked to enjoy the town's fourth annual gala.

A farmers' market, fun fair and charity stalls offered attractions for people of all ages.

Brian Llewellyn's Punch and Judy charity show proved to be a good crowd pleaser.

Brian, 56, from Darlington, said: "It never ceases to amaze me that kids love it so much. I think it's because they love to join in the pandemonium. I know people are enjoying it when I have a huge crowd blocking the aisle."

Erin Laverick, eight, who had never seen a Punch and Judy before, enjoyed the show with dad Paul, a 48-year-old electrician from Thornaby.

Paul said: "This is the first time we've come to the gala, but it won't be the last. It's been a great day."

A stage was also set up for the Yarm's Got Talent show, which saw local bands and Harlequin Stage School perform.

And there was plenty of food including hog roasts, burgers, curry and cakes to nibble on.

But not all the excitement was confined to the High Street as throughout the day there were bell boat races on the river.

Despite coming last in her race, Helen Simpson, a member of the Bridge Street Babes team, was all smiles.

Dressed as a hula dancer, the 31-year-old hairdresser from Eaglescliffe, said: "We've done it since it started three years ago. It's a bit of fun, we've had no training but it's a good way to get into the spirit of the gala."

Deputy Mayor Paul Smith said: "This is the fourth year and it's gone brilliantly. It's exactly how I envisioned it to be. The gala is about the history of Yarm and about getting everybody down to have a good time."

BOSTON, April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Crow's Weekly Market Report (Crow's) today reported that the total cost of lumber and panels for construction of a 2,116 sq ft home is nearly double that of year- ago levels. Based on the Crow's Construction Materials Cost Index (CMCI), the wholesale cost makeup brushes of lumber and panels for framing an average home has risen from $3,829.98 in April 2009 to $7,088.60 today. In addition, Crow's noted that when these figures are applied to the March 2010 single family housing starts number of 531,000, the potential exists for an additional cost to the home building industry of $1.7 billion. This rise can be attributed to the continuation of a uniquely supply-driven lumber and panel market. Crow's reported that while sustained and unexpected price increases for lumber and panels have been seen in the recent past -- specifically in the 2004-2005 timeframe, those increases were almost solely driven by demand from new housing starts. Crow's notes, that in today's markets, retailers, wholesalers and producers alike have learned to get by with as little inventory as possible, in an effort to keep ahead of an expected drop in demand and prices as North America continues to fight its way through the mortgage crisis and debilitating economic times.

Ken Tennefoss, Executive Editor of Crow's Weekly Market Report, commented, "While we recognize that it is highly unlikely for lumber and panel prices to remain at these levels for the remainder of the year, it is worth noting that in 2004, there weren't too many people in the industry that believed the price of 7/16 OSB would reach $520, and yet, of course it did." He continued, "It's important, now more than ever, to be aware of price changes. From the manufacture to the guy nailing up 2x4s, the impact of change can be tremendous."

Erchonia, the global leader in low level laser healthcare applications, presents three new studies at the upcoming American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery Annual Conference this week in Phoenix, Arizona.

Erchonia will be presenting a study it conducted using low level lasers to treat late stage Parkinson's disease. Eight volunteers between Yves Saint Laurent Shoe 18 and 80 years with late stage PD participated in the non-controlled, non-randomized study and received low level laser treatments daily for two weeks. Patients were asked to rate the severity of their symptoms (balance, gait, freezing, cognitive function, rolling in bed, and speech difficulties) from 0 to 10 using the Visual Analog Scale. All participants demonstrated a decrease in VAS from baseline to study endpoint.

The second study Erchonia plans to present shows how low level lasers may reduce low-density lipoprotein levels (LDL). Forty-one patients between 18 and 65 years participated in the non-controlled, non-randomized study. Partipants received a 40-minute ZERONA laser treatment three times a week for two weeks and demonstrated a reduction in low-density lipoprotein levels of 12.05 points, a 13% reduction. This study suggests that low level laser therapy may serve as a non-invasive way to reduce LDL levels in two weeks.

Erchonia's third study explores how its ZERONA laser impacts leptin levels, the hormone linked to hunger. Twenty volunteers between the ages of 18 and 65 participated in Erchonia's non-controlled, non-randomized study. Participants received 40-minute ZERONA low level laser treatments, three times per week for two weeks. All participants demonstrated a reduction in leptin levels compared to their baseline -- on average, a 50% decrease. Since leptin levels are associated with hunger, this study shows how low level laser technology may non-invasively suppress the appetite.

Ryan Maloney, Erchonia's medical director and one of the authors of the studies, comments, "Although these were non-controlled, non-randomized pilot studies, they each showed promising new applications for low level laser technology. Further study is needed, but Erchonia is paving the way for new non-invasive healthcare technologies with a commitment to research and innovation."
