Today, with me, @travelwithneel, the curator for the week, we start our journey in Delhi and our first stop is India Gate, or as it was know in colonial years, All Indian War Memorial. Bathed in white, standing tall in the middle of Lutyen's Delhi, the structure is a unique remanence of India's effort and loss in the first world war. Names of 13,300 servicemen is inscribed on the gate built in memory of 82000 soldiers who lost their life between 1914 & 1921. King George the fifth message when the foundation of the gate was laid, read "One this spot, in the central vista of the Capital of India, there will stand a memorial archway, designed to keep the glorious sacrifice of the officers and men of the Indian army who fought and fell." Today the grand design of Edwin Lutyen of a grim memory attracts a lot of visitors, some to appreciate the structure and some to find some moment of relief in the large gardens surrounding it. Until tomorrow to further travel back in time in the city of Delhi. #travel #delhi #incredibleindia #india #travelgram #indiagram #instaindia #instatravel #travelphotography #travelphoto # history #wwi #worldwar #saddidilli #sodelhi #igers #instahistory #colonial #coloursofindia #streetsofindia #indiatravel #traveldiaries #feature #curated #1 #know #instagood #indianhistory
