Some people believe that zoos serve useful functions. Other people believe that it is cruel and wrong to confine animals in zoos.
Even though some people believe that zoo is cruel and wrong to confine animals there because circumstances of places where confine animals is bad and animals feel uncomfortable, in my opinion, zoos serve useful functions with following reasons: acquisition of a lot of knowledge, increase in communication topic, and recent condition of animals.
First of all, zoo gives a lot of knowledge about habitats of animals to us. Many people can’t go to places where there are many animals such as Africa because of lack of both money and time, so zoo is only a place where we can learn habitats of animals. Of course, we can learn them through reading books; however, knowledge learning through reading books is sometimes different from that through observing animals directly.
Secondly, many kinds of knowledge enable us to get acquainted with more friends since we can talk with different people whose thoughts, experiences, and hobbies are different from ours. For instance, such diverse knowledge increase number of our topic to talk with people, and we can make more friends. In my case, whenever I get in touch with them and get a chance to talk with them, I can enjoy hearing different views and opinions. Indeed, hearing such diverse opinions can enrich my intellectual development while help me attain maturity in my behavior and improve my interpersonal communication. By getting familiar with many kinds of views, we can figure out how we should cooperate with people in seeking my community.
Finally, conditions enclosing animals are improving these days, so it is more comfortable for them to live in zoos. In Japan, cages where animals are put into are getting bigger and bigger, and animals can get enough food from humans. On the other hand, animals living in nature have to be worried about food and danger from the other animals. In that point, animals living in zoos do not have to be afraid of both food and danger from the other animals. In addition, the cages in Japan are getting bigger and bigger, so it is more comfortable for them to live in zoos.
Considering these elements, zoos serve useful functions and zoo is not cruel and not wrong to confine because of three main reasons: acquisition of a lot of knowledge, increase in communication topic, and good condition enclosing animals in Japan.
