今日は英語の授業で最近勉強したことについて振り返ってみたいと思います。
「英語」といってもいわゆる ESL の英語ではなく、
日本でいうところの「国語」のようなもので、
カナダローカルの学生も受けている授業です。
論理的な文章の書き方や、効果的な論文の書き方などを学んでおり、
その中で、Logical Fallacies (論理的誤り)を次のように分類していて、
それが面白かったので紹介します。
False premise
Genetic fallacy
Logical fallacy
Analogical fallacy
Appeal to good charachter
Appeal to bad character
Appeal to tradition
Appeal to popularity
Circular reasoning
False dilemma
Appeal to force
Appeal to pity
Straw person argument
False cause
Slippery slope argument

すべては紹介しません・・・・・・。
皆さんでググって調べてみてください。
テキストに載っていたものを参考に1つだけ紹介しておきます。
"Genetic fallacy is a particular kind of False Premise that begins with bigoted ideas about an entire race of people."
(発生論の誤謬とは、人種全体についての偏った考えから始まる特定の種類の虚偽の前提である。)
例)
All Japanese are shy.
(すべての日本人は恥ずかしがり屋である。)
James is Japanese.
(ジェームズは日本人だ。)
Therefore James is shy.
(それゆえジェームズは恥ずかしがり屋だ。)
このように、文章や会話の中で、All とか always とかがでてきたら、注意すべきです。
なぜなら現実世界においてそのようなことはまずめったにないからです。
これを Hasty Generalization (早急な一般化)と呼ぶこともあるようです。
