今日からは、1943年5月31日にブロードウェイで初演されたミュージカル
「オクラホマ！（Oklahoma!)」
作曲家リチャード・ロジャースと脚本家オスカー・ハマーシュタインⅡが初めてコンビを組んだ作品です。
以後このコンビは、回転木馬（Carousel ,1945年）、南太平洋（South Pacific ,1949年）、王様と私（The King and I,1951年）、サウンド・オブ・ミュージック（The Sound of Music ,1959年）と次々にミュージカルの名作を世におくりだしました。
初のコンビ作である「オクラホマ！」も、初演時にはなんと2212回というロングランを記録した大ヒット作です。1955年には20世紀フォックス社が映画化し、アカデミー賞も受賞しています。映画版の主演は「回転木馬」でもお馴染みのゴードン・マクレーとシャーリー・ジョーンズです。
物語の舞台は1906年のまだ州に昇格する前のオクラホマ準州の農場。
カウボーイのカーリー・マクレインと農場の娘ローリー・ウィリアムズ、同じくカウボーイのウィル・パーカーとローリーの友達、アド・アニーの二組の男女のラブストーリーです。
ミュージカルの中で歌われた「オクラホマ！」は、後にオクラホマ州の州歌になりました。
ちなみに、オクラホマは1907年11月16日、46番目の州に昇格します。
日本では、1967年、1984年、2006年に宝塚歌劇団が上演しています。

ローリー：じゃ、鈴を付けた馬車は？

ローリー：じゃ、どうするつもり？
こんなやりとりが続いたあと、カーリーはローリーを連れて行く馬車がどんなものか歌い始めます。

そしてカーリーは、再び歌い始めます。
