I'd like to think makeup is like a fashion you enjoy on your face.
Just like clothes, you can mix-match colors and styles depending on the genre. Just like shoes or head accessories, they can become an "accent" to your overall outfit. Just like any fashionable items, makeup can make or break the results depending on how the whole outfit comes together.
It's like art with your face as the canvas. Just like any artistic creation, makeup requires specific sets of skill - whether it be precision or the ability to recover from small mistakes.
I'm certainly glad that in this age (and perhaps especially in Japan), it is becoming more acceptable for men to wear makeup and for women to enjoy even further different styles of makeup.
突然ですが皆さんにとってメイクとはどんなものでしょうか？
僕はメイクとは顔に施す「オシャレ」だと思ってます。
例えば、メイクはお洋服のように様々な色やジャンルを組み合わせたりすることが出来、靴やハットみたいに全体コーデのワンポイントアクセントにもなり得る。僕は個人的にファッションにおいてメイクは必要不可欠だと思う。
更に言うとメイクは芸術だ、アートだ。
絵を描く時のように、メイクは多彩な技術を要する。例をあげると繊細さ、正確さ、または小さなミスを上手く隠すリカバリー能力等。
思い返すと今の時代に僕は生まれて嬉しい限りだ。比較的男性がメイクをしても不思議とされないし、女性は日に日に増えていくメイクの種類を楽しむことが出来る。
