The ability to accept responsibility for one’s mistake is the most important quality a leader can possess. |
There are some important qualities needed for a leader; leadership, honesty, fairness, decisiveness, and thoughtfulness. Of all these abilities, I think honesty is the most important quality because if you are dishonest, you can’t get the trust of the people around you. Therefore, I agree with the statement that the ability to accept responsibility for one’s mistake is the most important quality a leader can possess. The followings are some reasons why I think so.
First, accepting responsibility for the mistakes you have made is a mark of honesty. As you often see in the news, lots of governors always try to cover up their misconduct such as bribery, conflict of interest, or abuse of office authority. Those people are seen as very selfish people, who always put their interests over the citizen’s interests. They will lose trust by people and eventually nobody will listen to or support those people. By being honest and admitting their faults, they can send out a message to the members of their groups to do the same. If so, the members will be motivated to do their best and always try to support their leaders.
Second, admitting his or her own mistakes is not always easy, and moreover, accepting the mistake a member of his or her group has made is even more difficult. However, it is a good chance to remember what state of mind one was in at first. People tend to forget their initial enthusiasm as time goes by, and become more and more arrogant because of their power. Therefore, it is important for leaders to stay humble and modest. By being able to accept his or her mistakes, a leader can show his or her willingness to receive criticism from other people and to face whatever consequences may result from his or her actions. I think those people are trustworthy and are cut out to be a leader.
If you want to become a leader, you should be ready to accept responsibility by displaying your honesty and humbleness. For these reasons, I agree that the ability to accept responsibility for one’s mistakes is the most important quality a leader can possess.
