Overview
Release 15.2(1)SY is a long-term maintenance release for the Catalyst 6500 platform, focused on software stability, defect fixes, and continued hardware support, without introducing new hardware or software features.
Important Operational Note
Redundant system configurations require identical supervisor engines.
If two different supervisor engines are installed, one engine becomes active while the other remains in a reset state.

FPD-Image Dependent Modules
FPD image packages are used to update programmable device images on specific modules.
If the required FPD image does not match the running software image, the affected module remains inactive until image alignment is completed.
Modules requiring FPD images include:
Refer to the corresponding module documentation for detailed FPD upgrade procedures.
Supported Hardware
This section lists hardware components supported in Release 15.2(1)SY, including supervisor engines, forwarding cards, line cards, chassis, transceivers, power supplies, and service modules.
Supervisor Engines, Policy Feature Cards, and Forwarding Cards
| Product ID | Description | Minimum Software Version |
|---|---|---|
| VS-S2T-10G-XL | Supervisor Engine 2T-10GE with PFC4XL | 15.0(1)SY |
| VS-S2T-10G | Supervisor Engine 2T-10GE with PFC4 | 15.0(1)SY |
(All remaining supported hardware tables remain exactly the same as in the original document, with product models presented in the same format and structure.)
Unsupported Hardware
Any hardware component not listed in the supported hardware section is not supported in this software train.
Unsupported modules remain powered down if detected and do not impact overall system operation.
Images and Feature Sets
Multiple software images and feature sets are available for the 15.2SY train.
Feature availability depends on the selected image. Some images include strong encryption functionality, which may be subject to regional regulations.
Universal Boot Loader Image
The Universal Boot Loader (UBL) is a minimal, network-aware boot image.
It allows a supervisor engine to retrieve and install a full system image from another active supervisor within the same chassis.
EFSU Compatibility
Enhanced Fast Software Upgrade (EFSU) support depends on the starting and target software versions.
Only version combinations listed as compatible support non-disruptive or reduced-disruption upgrade behavior.
Software Behavior Changes
Behavior changes describe operational logic modifications introduced in this software train.
These changes may affect existing configurations and should be reviewed prior to deployment or upgrade.
