Overview

This document provides essential release information for NX‑OS Release 11.0(4h) for Nexus 9000 Series switches operating in Application Centric Infrastructure mode. It describes supported hardware, fabric extenders, installation guidance, compatibility and usage notes, documented caveats including open and resolved issues, and known behaviors. This release focuses on platform stability and compatibility for ACI fabrics.

Supported Fabric Extenders (FEX)

The following fabric extenders are supported in ACI mode:

Fabric extender modules require a minimum firmware version in order to operate successfully.

Installation Guidance

To install or replace a pluggable module such as a GEM:

  1. Clear the switch’s current configuration.
  2. Power off the switch.
  3. Insert or replace the hardware module.
  4. Power the switch back on.

Consult the ACI Fabric Hardware Installation Guide for full procedures.

Compatibility Notes

  • Only optics and modules supported for the specific device models should be used.
  • Unsupported third‑party optics may behave unpredictably.
  • Link‑level flow control is not supported in ACI mode.
  • Breakout of 40G ports to 4×10G on certain switches is not supported in ACI mode.
  • To connect a controller cluster, a 10G interface on a leaf node is required; direct connections to some spine platforms are not supported.
  • Leaf and spine nodes from different fabrics must not be connected directly.

Usage Guidelines

The following protocols must be permitted through fabric contracts to ensure proper operation:

  • SNMP
  • BGP
  • OSPF
  • BOOTP/DHCP
  • IGMP
  • PIM
  • DNS replies
  • HTTPS
  • NTP

All required control and management traffic must be allowed in contract policies.

Open Caveats

Documented open caveats that may affect network operations include:

  • Fabric extender logs may be missing in detailed outputs.
  • Events and interface faults may not update in the graphical user interface.
  • Some command outputs display slowly.
  • Fabric extender diagnostic results may be incomplete.
  • REST API reload commands may return errors.
  • Fabric extender support issues when connected behind certain top‑of‑rack devices.
  • Timeouts and convergence anomalies during certain downgrade operations.
  • Protocol and operational caveats that may impact convergence or forwarding.

Resolved Caveats

Issues that have been addressed in this release include:

  • Logical interface profile configuration issues are resolved.
  • Endpoint process memory issues and output discrepancies are corrected.
  • Endpoint and MAC/IP learning behaviors are improved.
  • Various operational and display inconsistencies are fixed.

Known Behaviors

Known behaviors that might impact operations include:

  • Certain policy configurations, such as maximum prefix limits, are not supported.
  • Layer‑3 switched packets exiting a fabric extender interface are not spanned.
  • Traffic count anomalies and multicast handling behaviors may be observed.
  • Some temperature sensor readings on certain platforms may be inaccurate due to airflow characteristics.
  • Convergence and downgrade behavior can cause temporary traffic impacts.
