Many readers have written in to point out there are plenty of ways to avoid these problems below, including using Partition Magic to nake some space for Linux. Thanks for writing.

According to a reader, the 17-inch Toshiba laptop, the P25, is advertised as being provided with Win XP Home.
But, he says, it doesn't come with the usual setup CDs for Windows, but instead uses a DVD with an already setup version of Windows XP Home and then transfers it to the notebook's hard drive.
He said: "Without the real setup CDs for Windows, I can't setup dual boot for Linux. Isn't it interesting that I just paid for a version of Windows that circumvents the ability to be dual-booted with Linux?"
He said that the people at Toshiba he contacted about his problem were sympathetic to his plight, but couldn't offer an answer to his problem, meaning he'll have to fork out for a fresh set of Windows XP disks if he wants to perform the dual boot miracle.
