関西で「駅ナカ」が一段と盛り上がりをみせてきた。JR西日本とコンビニエンスストア最大手のセブン-イレブン・ジャパンは、駅構内などにある売店やコンビニ計約500店を「セブン-イレブン」に転換する計画で、関西の私鉄各社も駅ナカ商業施設や店舗の充実を図っている。集客力の高さで群を抜く駅ナカが知恵を競い合うことで、新たな商品やサービスが生まれる可能性もある。
JR西日本とセブン-イレブンは6月4日、京都駅、岡山駅など4駅の計5店舗を衣替え。京都駅でオープンに立ち会ったセブン-イレブン・ジャパンの井阪隆一社長は「駅ナカ店舗に対するニーズに応える」と話した。JR西日本の駅ナカ店舗では、これまでほとんどなかった現金自動預払機(ATM)を設置。各種公共料金の支払いができる店舗を増やす考えだ。
