I always admire the expertise of my German friend of the German Federal Government who is in charge of presenting the latest situation of German renewable energies to foreign companies and facilitating them to invest in the German market.
Therefore, when I had heard his plan to visit Japan in late February, I had wanted him to make a presentation to members of the Japanese Parliament.
Fortunately, the Secretary General of the Japanese NPO promoting solar power whom I know understood my wish and helped me to make an arrangement of the meeting between my German friend and members of the Japanese Parliament.
On the day of the meeting, my German friend of the German Federal Government made a superb presentation to the members of the Japanese Parliament. He presented to them the latest situation of German renewable energies especially in the area of solar power and energy storage.
He advised that Feed-in Tariff degression enforced yearly cost reductions and that grid parity was reached in the German PV market in 2011. Also, he advised that, for the purpose of storing electricity during daytime and using it during nighttime, demand for storage batteries is expanding in Germany. He concluded that PV own consumption, balancing power, and surplus energy would create huge demand for energy storage.
Germany introduced Feed-in Tariff 10 years earlier than Japan. Therefore, to learn about the latest situation of German renewable energies provides a good prediction on how Japanese renewable energies would be in the coming several years.
The members of the Japanese Parliament were so impressed and excited that they asked so many questions. I could see that his presentation on the latest situation of German renewable energies was so enlightening and eye-opening to them.
I was very happy to be a part of it by interpreting his presentation into the Japanese language and interpreting questions and answers.
These members of the Japanese Parliament are leaders of forming energy policies within the ruling party. I hope that the seeds we sowed this time will produce a crop in future in the form of legislations even more favorable to renewable energies.
Incidentally, I am just an ordinary man like any other citizens. I am not in a privileged position. All what I share with my German friend of the German Federal Government is the idealism that the energy transition is the right thing to do and will make the world better.
The fact that such an ordinary person could make an arrangement between the German Federal Government and the members of the Japanese Parliament means and proves that anyone can participate in and contribute to the facilitating and promoting this historical energy transition.
In democracies, it is the people who hold sovereign power over legislator and government. In the 20th century, a few people in the government and corporate executive rooms determined the nation's energy policies based upon centralized nuclear and fossil fuel energies. However, in the 21st century, it is the people who determine the nation's energy policy based upon decentralized and distributed renewable energies.
The democratization of energy sector will change the nation's politics, national security policy, economic policy, fiscal policy, and diplomacy. The more people participate in this historic energy transition, the more secured and faster the transition becomes.
The more solar panels are installed, the more democracy and world peace will prevail.

国会議員の方々は、たいへんに感銘を受け、興奮しました。たいへんに多くの質問をしていただきました。彼のプレゼンテーションが、彼らにとって、きわめて啓蒙的、啓発的であることが見て取れました。
私は、彼のプレゼンテーションおよび質疑応答を通訳することを通じ、参加することが出来て、たいへんに光栄でした。
今回ミーティングに参加していただいたのは、与党においてエネルギー政策を主導する立場の方々です。我々が今回蒔いた種が、将来、より再生可能エネルギー普及を促進する法律となって結実することを望んでいます。
