In my article of May 25th, I introduced to you one of the greatest players in the history of football, Johan Cruyff, the exponent of the so-called Total Football.
For the purpose of your better understanding of Total Football, allow me to introduce to you the videos of the Dutch national football team in the 1974 World Cup.
The first video is Netherland vs Arzentina. This was a group league match. The game was won by Netherland with the score of 4-0. You can see the overwhelming offensive power of Total Football. The video is available here.
The second video is Netherland vs Brazil. This was a semi-final of the 1974 World Cup. The game was won by Netherland with the score of 2-0. The second goal made by Cruyff’s jumping volley shot is regarded as one of the best goals in the history of the World Cup. The video is available here.
Incidentally, the Japanese national football team won against the Omani national football team with the score of 3-0 in the World Cup qualifying match on June 3rd, 2012. During the game, the Japan team’s play style seemed to be very much like Total Football.
The Japanese players' arrangement for the first goal by Honda looked like the Cruyff’s goal against Brazil. The Japanese second goal by Maeda looked like the Cruyff’s first goal against Arzentina. I believe Cruyff would be very much pleased to see the Japan team’s spectacle play style!

今回は、トータルフットボールをより良くご理解いただくために、１９７４年ワールドカップにおけるオランダチームの動画をご紹介させて下さい。

ところで、６月３日に行なわれた、サッカーW杯アジア地区最終予選で、日本代表チームは、オマーンに３－０のスコアで快勝しました。この試合で、日本代表は、非常にトータルフットボール的な戦いぶりを示しました。
たとえば、本田が決めた日本の１点目の組立ては、ブラジル戦でクライフが決めたゴールにとても良く似ています。また、前田が決めた日本の２点目は、アルゼンチン戦でのクライフの１点目のゴールにとても良く似ています。日本代表の戦いぶりを見たら、クライフは絶賛すると思います！。
