最近、小説家は太宰治について言いました。私は母に、小説をたくさん読んでいるし、好きな作家もたくさんいるけれど、なぜ太宰治が特に好きなのか分からない、もしかしたら前世で知り合いだったのかもしれない、と話しました。母はこう言いました。「妄想はやめなさい。太宰治が好きなのは、彼がイケメンだったからだけよ」
ええ、太宰治がイケメンだったことには私も同感です。ただ、イケメンだから彼を尊敬しているわけではないと思います。他にもイケメンの小説家はたくさんいますから。太宰治の人柄や考え方に共感し、彼の作品に感動を受け、尊敬しています。「前世」は単なる冗談だった。
Recently, I mentioned the Japanese novelist Osamu Dazai. I told my mum that although I’ve read many novels and have lots of favourite authors, I’m not sure why I’m especially like Osamu Dazai, maybe we knew each other in a past life. My mum replied, “Stop fantasizing; you like Osamu Dazai just because he was handsome.”
Well, I do agree that Osamu Dazai was handsome, I don’t think that’s the only reason I admire him as there are plenty of good-looking novelists. I believe I feel a connection with Osamu Dazai’s personality and thoughts, and his writing has inspired me and earned my respect.
The “past life” was just a joke.
