本日はメルマガよりトピックスを紹介させていただきます。
“Christmas”
Now a days, you see Christmas Trees decorated in November,
but did you know that traditionally, the day to decorate and put
down the tree was set?
It is said, that Christmas trees were decorated on the eve,
December 24 and was put down after the 12th night, January
6th.
In Japan, the image of Christmas might be PARTIES and couple
event but in the United States, Christmas is a day to visit
churches and spent time with the family.
There for, many stores are closed on the Christmas day, 25th,
so watch out if you are visiting the U.S. in the Christmas season.
But, December is the big Holiday season, and it is a big
shopping season, holiday sale are held for Christmas shopping!
For New Years, Cont Down is the biggest event and parties are
often held but soon will be back to every day mode.
New York Times Square is a well known, Count Down event.
Many people gather and so, if you want to be close to Times
Square at Count Down, you better be there very early, during
the day time!
The event is also shown on TV, fire works will be up from
Central Park too.
「クリスマス」
最近では11月に入るとクリスマスツリーを見かけることが多くなりまし
たが、昔の風習では、クリスマスツリーを飾る日、しまう日が決まって
いたのを知っていますか？
飾り付けはクリスマスイブの12月24日に行われ、十二夜の後、１月６
日にはもうしまわれていたそうです。
日本ではパーティーをしたり、カップルで過ごしたりというイメージの
強いクリスマスですが、アメリカでは教会で過ごしたり、実家で過ごし
たりということが多いのです。
そのため、クリスマス当日の12月25日はお店なども閉まっていること
が多く、街にはあまり人気がなかったりなんてことも多いので、クリス
マスシーズンにアメリカに旅行するときは気をつけて下さい。
そのかわり12月に入るとアメリカではホリデーシーズン、クリスマス
用のお買い物ムードが強くなりお店などはセールをはじめてますよ。
お正月はカウントダウン、年越しパーティーが多く開かれますが、その
後お休みも短く、すぐに日常に戻ります。日本では、年末年始を大切に
してお正月休みも年が明けてから数日ありますが、アメリカでは１月
３日ぐらいから学校や仕事が始まったりするのです。
カウントダウンのイベントではニューヨークのタイムズスクエアが有名ですね。
人出はかなり多く、カウントダウンの時間にタイムズスクエアの近くにいようと思ったら、まだ明るいうちから場所取りをしなくてはいけないぐらい・・・。
もちろんその様子はテレビでも生中継され、セントラルパークから花火も打ち上げられます。
