I am Daisuke Kawata, the older brother of Tetsuro Kawata.I am posting this from Tetsuro's account at his request.

It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my brother, Tetsuro Kawata, who died at 6:37 p.m. on October 10, 2026, at the age of 48, surrounded by his family. The cause of death was pneumonia caused by ALS.
Although we are heartbroken, it brings us solace to know that he has finally been released from his long battle with ALS—one of the most devastating and incurable diseases.

Tetsuro was diagnosed with ALS in 2010. At first, he made the difficult decision not to use a ventilator—which he would need a few years down the line—and to accept his fate. However, he later chose not merely to survive, but to truly fight against ALS.
Even after losing the ability to move, eat, and breathe on his own, he actively studied ALS and taught himself investing from scratch, eventually becoming a day trader. Wanting to bring smiles to displaced Ukrainian children, he also commissioned custom volleyballs in the colors of the Ukrainian flag and had them presented to the children through the Embassy of Ukraine. These were remarkable achievements that even people without disabilities would struggle to accomplish.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported Tetsuro throughout his journey:
- To the friends who accompanied him to Israel in search of treatments when he was first diagnosed.
- To those who took part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in his garden.
- To the friends who supported "ALS Friends JAPAN," the organization Tetsuro founded—setting up a booth every year at the Higashiosaka City Fureai Festival and donating all proceeds to Kyoto University's Center for iPS Cell Research and Application (CiRA) and the Department of Gene Therapy at Tokyo Medical University.
- And to the caregivers who provided such devoted care to Tetsuro, honoring his strong-willed nature until the very end.

During his lifetime, Tetsuro and our family received tremendous support and kindness. We sincerely thank each and every one of you.
We humbly ask for your continued warm support in the days ahead.
Please accept this message as a brief announcement of his passing.
