Hello all.

I’d like to share with you my short yet noble tale from this Sakuraコスモス season.

My parents came to Japan last week

(their second visit to Japan this year,

but this time it was just a layover for their trip to China).

So, because I live in Yokohama,

I got up extra early to go to the airport飛行機.

Their flight was delayed(-。-;)

But I just talked to some travelers (from Toronto, Canada)

while I waitedにひひ

The travelers were worried because they came to Japan with no plans, they didn’t know any hotels叫び

they didn’t have any friends in Japan叫び

and they didn’t speak any Japanese or know anything about Japan!!

It made me laughべーっだ! But they laughed too合格

Anyways, I finally got a call from my mother携帯

But she was cryingしょぼんしょぼんあせる

The airline told her there wasn’t enough time to see me.

But when my parents bought their tickets,

the airline飛行機 had said it would be okay!!

Although I was upsetシラー

I didn’t want my parents to be upsetむっ

so I said,

“Don’t worry about me. Go to China and enjoy your trip!”

I decided to help the Canadian travelers instead.

I showed them the train to Tokyo, I found them a hotel,

and I taught them about the Tokyo train system,

the popular tourist areas,

and a few useful Japanese words to help them.

Then I went to work.

Maybe I couldn’t see my parents,

but I was able to do something goodOK

Sounding Humble

Hello again.

It's Allan from indy English.

I suppose it's been a while 「久しぶりと思います」。

I feel Sping has finally arrived and here is a

silly children's poem about Spring:

Spring has sprung チューリップ紫

The grass has ris クローバー

I wonder where 虹

The birdies is? ヒヨコ

As I think you can see maybe children don't care so much

about English grammar or spelling! Perhaps they can

learn it later.

Let's try;

The Spring has sprung

The grass has risen

I wonder where

The birds are?

Now I reckon the English is correct,

but I guess it's not a very good poem!むっ

I was thinking about how important it is

in Japanese to sound humble;

「謙虚の話」

~と思う、~かもう知らない、~と感じる、etc.

I believe that it is important to sound humble

in English too.

I can say 'where are the birds?',

but 'I wonder were the birds are?' sounds a little

more humble or softer.

We don't want to offend other people or

possibly sound too strong willed or demanding,

so we constantly start sentences with:

'I think~'

(At least, I think we do).べーっだ!

You will notice in this blog message I used

many 'humble' phrases:

I think, I feel, I suppose, I believe,

I consider, I reckon, I guess that

maybe, possibly, perhaps

it is best to sound a little humble

in English!
