(1)speculate
・ to guess about the possible causes or effects of something without knowing all the facts
日本語だと"勘ぐってみる"という感じでしょうか？ 前置詞は、on, about, as toが使われます。
We can speculate on the likely consequences of changes in employment practices in our company.

He made money by speculating on the stock market.
(2)Infer
・to reach an opinion that something is probably true because of information that is available
手許にある情報を使って判断する、という感じでしょうか？
A couple of general trends can be inferred from these sample data.
