今、街での話題は、「路上駐車」になってます。雪のため、コインパーキングも今は、無料にしている。
そこで、もっとも良く出てくる言葉が、"Dibs"です。
もともと、住民は、町から駐車ステッカーを買うと、路上駐車する権利がもらえます。いつもは、どこか空いているところを探して、路上駐車します。
でも、60cmもの雪、駐車のために雪をどけて、やっと作った駐車スペース。車を出せば、だれか他の人が、ラッキーとばかりに、駐車してしまいます。
そこで、市民に黙認されいるのが、"dibs"です。
これは、「場所どり」なので、違反だし、エチケットとしても、良くないけど。。
dibsをどけて、無理に車を置く人は、周りに非難されるので、いないみたい。
"Think about it, you spend a couple hours clearing a spot and somebody from another block takes it?" Superintendent Jody Weis said Friday.
「2，3時間もかけて作った駐車場所を、だれかに取られるなんて、考えてみろよ」と警察本部長 談。

ただ、ハムスターやフェレットやギアナピッグ入りのかごを「場所取り」につかうのは、だめだ。
動物は、そんな超寒いところ好きじゃないかもしれないからな。
