Cur の意味をわかりやすく説明しています
“ the Latin word element cur, meaning ‘run.’ If you swim against the current, you swim against “ ruining” water. If you suffer from a recurrent illness, the illness keeps “ running back” or happening again and again. An excursion into the countryside is a “running outside” of the area where you live; the incursion of enemy forces would mean their “running into” (attacking) territory that is not their own. If you quickly scan or “run through” an essay, we say you gave the essay a cursory reading, often implying haste or carelessness. A public utilities official warns that a local two hour blackout is the precursor of widespread power failures. He means that the blackout is something that “runs before” and signals the approach of something else, in this case widespread power failures. Cour is a variant of cut; thus, a diplomatic courier is a “runner” of messages between governments.”
