殺し屋の彼に狙われた時に

孤独な殺し屋だ
いつから呼ばれるようになったかは知らないが、スラッシュメタル四天王と呼ばれる四つのバンドがある。
英語ではビッグ・フォー (The Big Four of Thrash Metal) と呼ばれているが、それらはメタリカ、メガデス、スレイヤー、とアンスラックスである。
このアンスラックスのセカンドアルバムSpreading the Diseaseの発表が1985年10月。
それと同じ頃では、メタリカのセカンド Ride the Lightning 発表が1984年7月。
スレイヤーのセカンド Hell Awaits 発表が1985年3月。
メガデスのファースト Killing Is My Business... の発表が1985年年6月。
どのバンドにもそれぞれ特徴があり私は全て好きだったが、このアンスラックスには他の三つのバンドとは決定的に違う点がひとつあった。
それは魅力的なボーカルのジョーイ・ベラドナの存在なのであーる。

そして名作であるこのセカンドアルバムで、彼の万人受けするボーカルが生きているのがこの曲「Lone Justice(孤独の正義)」なのです。
特にコーラス (サビ) のNo Name からの心地よい疾走感のようなのは、他のスラッシュバンドのボーカルには出せなかったわけです。
歌詞の始まりは「この世には二種類の人間がいる」ということですが、この歌の主人公はどちらなのでしょう。
端的に言えば主人公は必殺仕事人のような存在で、真犯人を探し自ら正義を行い、一般の人々からは好かれている。
司法制度のもとでは彼の様な殺し屋(gunslinger) は犯罪者であっても、この論理の二分法でいくと、主人公は無法者達を倒す側の人なのです。
日本では未だに死刑制度賛成の人が多く、そして全体として厳罰化を望む声が多いでしょう。
しかし、特にヨーロッパでは、欧州連合加入の条件になっているせいでもありますが、まーじで死刑反対の人が多いです。
私は多様な考え方を尊重し理解しますが、もし人々が必殺仕事人や Lone Justice の登場を望むような社会であるのなら、それは立法と司法に欠陥があるのだろうと思います。
反対に、欧州の様に人々が殺し屋の登場を望まないのなら、その地域では上手くいっているのかもしれませんね。
