アサバガレイ属の仔稚魚の形態記載の確認と，形態がまったく不明なミギガレイ仔稚魚を探すにあたって必要な文献のひとつなのである。

追記：
Pertseva-Ostroumova（1961）を見て確認したところ，彼女がシュムシュガレイ L. bilineata として記載した仔稚魚は，それらの採集海域から，Orr and Matarese (2000) が新種記載した L. polyxystra とのこと。したがって，Pertseva-Ostroumova（1961）を引用・転載した稚魚図鑑初版（1988）と第二版（2014）のシュムシュガレイは L. polyxystra である。
さらに，稚魚図鑑第二版（2014）で引用・転載しているPertseva-Ostroumova（1961）のシュムシュガレイの図の体長記載に誤植があり，一部の個体の並び順に誤りのあることが分かった（変態に伴って体が収縮するのか確認した結果である）。
