Dick: By the way, Yuko, what's that?
Yuko: ??
本番の英会話のクラスで、先生であるディックさんが祐子さんの手、または手元に
あるものを指し示してそれが何であるか尋ねています。
祐子さんの手には鉛筆が握られてます。
そしてその手元には、ノートや、消しゴムや、鉛筆削りや、筆箱や、めがねケースや
録音機などがあります。
が、ディック先生がどれのことを言っているのか分からないので、困って、多分
考え込んでいます。
Dick: That red one near your left hand?
と言いながらディックさんは祐子さんの方へ歩き始めます。
Yuko: ??
祐子さんは 'Red' [赤い] というのは聞こえたのですが、鉛筆削りも赤いし、めがね
ケースも赤いので、どっちのことを言っているのか困っています。
Dick: Excuse me, but I mean this.
手が相手の空間 [領域] を犯すので、ディックさんは 'Excuse me, but' と言ってから
そのものを指し示しています。
Yuko: ((Enpitukezuri--Enpitukezuri--?? 英語分からない・・・))
「鉛筆削り」 の英語が分からないので、祐子さんは黙って考え込んでしまいました。

In a real English conversation class, Dick, the teacher asks Yuko, one of the students,
what it is, pointing to something in her hand or on the desk.

Dick: By the way, Yuko, what's that?
Yuko: ??

Yuko is holding a pencil in her hand.
And near her hand on the desk are a notebook, an eraser, a pencil sharpener, a pencil
case, a glasses case and a cassette recorder.
But she is troubled because she cannot tell which one Dick is pointing to, and falls into
a silent agony of thinking out which one.

Dick: That red one near your left hand?
--------------------
Saying so, Dick starts to walk toward her.
--------------------
Yuko: ??
--------------------
She is able to catch and understand 'red', but again troubled with a 'which qwestion'
because both the pencil sharpner and the glasses case are red.
--------------------
Dick: Excuse me, but I mean this.
--------------------
Dick points to the pencil sharpener after saying 'Excuse me, but' because his hand
invades her territory.

Yuko: ((Enpitukezuri--Enpitukezuri--??))
--------------------
Here again, she is troubled into a silent agony, because she does't know the English
'a pencil sharpener'.
