当たり前で簡単なことなのに

私は、会話と言うものは通常、いちいち考えて発言するものではなく、直感で発言するものだ
と言いましたね。
そして、英会話も同様だと。

最大の問題は本番の英会話（の状況）に入った時に、相手の発言やノンバーバル・メセッジ
に対して私たちが何を直感し、何を即座に言うかでしょう。

相手の発言が聞き取れないと直感した時には、即座に
「すみません、聞き取れないのですが。 [Sorry (, I couldn't follow you).]」とか、
「えっ、何とおっしゃった？ [Pardon (me)?]｣とか、
親しい間柄なら
「えっ、何て言った？ [What (did you say)?]」等と言うことです。

そうすることは必須です。
これは当たり前のことでしょう。
ごく簡単なことでしょう。

違いますか？

なのに、私たちの英会話の体験レッスンやクラスに来られた方でそうおできになった方は、
１００人に１人も、つまり、１０００人に１０人もいらっしゃいません。
それまで何年も、いや、中には何十年もいわゆる英語や英会話をどこかで習ったり、独学
したりなさってきたのにですよ。

英会話はシンプルなんですよ。

It's a Matter of Course and Very Easy

I have already said that conversation is something in which we utter words intuitively,

and not after thinking this and that.

And also that 'English conversation' is not an exception.

The greatest question while our students are in a real 'English conversation' (situation)

is what sort of idea comes to their mind intuitively when a native speaker of English

utteres words to them (of course with some extra-verbal messages).

When they cannot catch the words, they should intuitively be able to ask for the same

words saying, "Sorry (, I couldn't follow you)." or "Pardon (me)?"

Or when they are friends with the partner, "What (did you say)?"

This is a matter of course, and it's a very easy thing to do.

Don't you think so?

But even so, the number of students who were able to do so in our, what we call, 'free

experience class (or lesson) ' has been fewer than 10 out of 1,000, i.e. fewer than 1%.

in the past neary 25 years, though they had learned or taught themselves English or

'English conversation' for many years, well, some for more than 10s of years.

Something is seriously wrong here, isn't it?

It really is.
