コノテガシワ(児手柏)の花と実がついていました。
薄紫色の小さな花が雌花。写真には写っていませんが黄褐色の雄花が咲いて、角のある独特の形をした淡い灰青色の球果がつきます。
表裏のわからない緑葉がさわやかなコニファー。
横に伸びず、上に伸びる枝葉が子供の手のひらを上に立てているように見えることから名付けられています。原産地中国では、カシワ(柏)は針葉樹のことだそうです。
中国の歴史書「史書」にも「百木の長」として登場するコノテガシワは風水でも代表的な「陽木」とされ、縁起がよいそうです。
中国では、長寿の象徴として、寺院、墓地や廟に植栽されていることが多いそうです。
葉は薬用となり、滋養強壮、止血に効果があるとされています。乾燥させたコノテガシワの葉を焼酎に浸し、ヘアトニック代わりに使うと抜け毛予防、育毛に効果があるとする民間療法があります。
国産精油yuicaでもコノテガシワの精油が抽出できると良いですね。
