Without doubt, the mobile phone market has been nothing less than revolutionary. Only a few short years ago, phones were fixed items - part of the furniture of the house and home. These objects were also rather bland until their design began to become fashionable. And almost as soon as that happened, so did the introduction of the mobile phone. We were captivated by our phones, but we were no longer captive in our homes.
At first, mobile phones were large, unsightly and unwieldy. Oh, and, of course, expensive. A good proportion of the weekly family spend was needed to purchase and maintain one. They were the province of enthusiasts or those with more money than sense.
Then, an explosion took place. The populace began to take mobile phones into their hearts. It was no longer unfashionable to be seen with one as they became smaller, sleeker and pretty cool to own.
Creative models:And, one further thing happened. The prices dropped.
As the clamour for mobile phones and accessories gained momentum, so the enormous profit potential of the manufacturers was plain. Prices came down in the knowledge that the majority of the population, including children, wanted - even needed - a mobile friend.
The explosion continued and eventually providers were happy to lure prospects with the promise of a host of goodies. Of these (including free texts, downloads and airtime) the cashback was, and still is, the most valuable. In this way, providers are able to promise a significant amount of cashback on certain phones that are sold, with the proviso that a contract is taken out for a minimum period. This cashback, quite often up to 100%, would be honoured after a certain period of time and with the initiation of the request from the customer.
Most customers forget to initiate a request and therefore never fulfil the conditions needed for cashback. But, those that do, find that they have the full and uninterrupted use of a mobile phone for a year or even 18 months. Then, in order to save as much as possible, the phone can be discarded or sold, and the money-saving process repeated again and again!
Such offers are evergreen and a little bit of searching can bring many dividends and surprises.
.... as well as a bright and shiny, new, sleek mobile phone!
